The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Dorset: The byelection in Bridport ward held on 21 May was won by Paddy Mooney. Liberal Democrat hold. As a result the Liberal Democrats have an overall majority on the council, although they remain in coalition with the Green Party.
- Fylde: The byelection in Kirkham ward held on 21 May was won by Adam Brierley. The Conservatives take a seat previously held by an Independent.
- Lancaster: The byelection in Castle ward held on 21 May was won by William Farley. Green Party hold.
- Malvern Hills: The byelection in Alfrick, Leigh and Rushwick ward held on 21 May was won by Chris McSweeny. Liberal Democrat gain from Malvern Hills Independents.
Defections
- Bolton: Andrea Taylor-Burke, who was elected for the Conservatives in Little Lever and Darcy Lever ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Chorley: Pauline McGovern, who was elected for the Labour Party in Clayton East, Brindle and Hoghton ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. Meanwhile Chris Snow, who was elected for the Labour Party in Chorley East ward but left the party group in January, has returned.
- Cornwall: Jamie Hanlon, who was elected for Reform UK in Penwithick and Boscoppa division, has left the party to sit as a Stand Alone Independent councillor.
- Durham: Three councillors elected for Reform UK have left the party to sit as Independents. They are Kenny Hope (Delves Lane division) and Andrew Harrison (Seaham division), followed by Kate Rowland (Shildon and Dene Valley division).
- Epsom and Ewell: Steven McCormick, who was elected for the Residents’ Associations in Woodcote and Langley Vale ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
- Hartlepool: Quewone Bailey-Fleet, who was elected for the Labour Party in Rossmere ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Hillingdon: Kaushik Banerjee, who was elected for the Conservatives in Ickenham and South Harefield ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Lincolnshire: Trevor Bridgwood, who was elected for Reform UK in Bardney and Cherry Willingham division, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned Independent county councillor.
- Neath Port Talbot: Rhidian Mizen, who was elected for the Labour Party in Bryn and Cwmavon ward, has left the party to sit as an unaffiliated Independent councillor.
- Newport: Nick Portman, who was elected for the Conservatives in Rogerstone North ward, has been suspended from the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
- North Northamptonshire: Darren Rance, who was elected for Reform UK in Brickhill and Queensway ward but left the party in February when he toyed with joining Restore Britain, has now been readmitted to Reform UK.
- Sefton: Jay Cooper, who was elected for Reform UK in Bootle West ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent member.
- Sheffield: Mick Lee, who was elected for Reform UK in Shiregreen and Brightside ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Shropshire: Andy Boddington, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Ludlow North division, has once again left the party group to sit as a non-affiliated Independent councillor.
- Stevenage: Sarah Mead, who was elected for the Labour Party in Shephall ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Stockport: Joe Barratt, who was elected for the Labour Party in Bredbury and Woodley ward but left the party in September 2025, has now joined the Liberal Democrats.
- Surrey: Steven McCormick, who was elected for the Residents’ Associations of Epsom and Ewell in Epsom Town and Downs division, has joined the Conservatives.
- Walsall: Robin Perry, who was elected for Reform UK in Harden, Goscote and Ryecroft ward, has been suspended from the party.
- Warwickshire: Jan Matecki, who was elected for the Conservatives in Budbrooke and Bishop’s Tachbrook division but suspended from the group last month, has been readmitted.
- Wolverhampton: Udey Singh, who was elected for the Conservatives in Tettenhall Regis ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Worcestershire: Matthew Jones, who was elected for Reform UK in Kidderminster St John’s division, has left the party to join Worcestershire Independent Group which has been formed by other ex-Reform UK councillors. It seems Conservative group leader Adam Kent has retained the Conservative whip on the county council, despite his suspension from party membership.

- Cotswold: Cirencester St Michael’s ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Joseph Harris. Term ends 2027.
- Ealing: North Acton ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Simon Anthony due to ill health. Term ends 2030.
- Gateshead: High Fell ward, after the resignation of Reform UK councillor Danielle Cavanagh. Term ends 2030.
- Haringey: Woodside ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Hasret Bozdogan. Term ends 2030.
- Isle of Anglesey: Bro’r Llynnoedd ward, after the death of Plaid Cymru councillor Ken Taylor. Term ends 2027.
- Lambeth: Clapham Park ward, after the resignation of Green party councillor Joanna Eaves. Term ends 2030.
- Merthyr Tydfil: Dowlais and Pant ward, after the resignation of Reform UK councillor David Hughes on election to Senedd Cymru. Term ends 2027.
- Stafford: Manor ward, after the death of Labour councillor Angela Loughran. Term ends 2027.
- Sunderland: Hylton Castle ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Glenn Gibbins who was elected for Reform UK. Term ends 2030.
- Telford and Wrekin: Malinslee and Dawley Bank ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Shaun Davies following his appointment as Assistant Whip. Term ends 2027.
- Thurrock: Grays Riverside ward, after the resignation of Reform UK councillor Joseph Soper. Term ends 2030.
- Thurrock: Grays Town ward, after the resignation of Reform UK councillor Marc Stanley. Term ends 2030.
- Uttlesford: Great Dunmow North ward, after the death of Residents 4 Uttlesford councillor Alexander Armstrong. Term ends 2027.

- Basildon: A minority Conservative administration has taken over control of the council.
- Basingstoke and Deane: The coalition administration between Basingstoke and Deane Independents, Liberal Democrats and some Independent councillors will continue to run the council.
- Blackburn with Darwen: The council will be run by a minority Labour administration.
- Bolton: There will be a minority Labour administration.
- Bradford: On 19 May the Annual General Meeting elected a Reform UK councillor as the Leader of the Council. It is not yet clear whether there will be a minority administration or some form of coalition.
- Brent: After agreeing a deal with the Conservatives to make the Conservatives the main opposition group, Labour will run a minority administration.
- Burnley: The coalition between the Burnley Independent Group, Liberal Democrats and Green Party will continue to control the council.
- Cannock Chase: Following the council elections, a minority Reform UK administration has taken over.
- Canterbury: The Labour / Liberal Democrat coalition which had controlled the council since 2023 has collapsed, as the Liberal Democrats objected to the Labour council leader questioning whether Liberal Democrat planning committee members should be voting to refuse developments on sites allocated in the local plan. As a result Labour will now lead a minority administration.
- Carmarthenshire: Last week’s update erroneously reported that Carmelo Colasanto, who had resigned his seat in Llangennech ward, was a Plaid Cymru councillor. He is from Reform UK.
- Cherwell: The coalition between the Liberal Democrats, Green Party and Independent councillors will continue to form the administration.
- Coventry: There will be a minority Labour administration.
- East Sussex: Reform UK have formed a minority administration.
- Exeter: The Labour administration will continue to run the city council as a minority.
- Gosport: The council will be run by a minority Conservative administration.
- Hampshire: The Conservatives have agreed a deal with Reform UK under which there is a minority Conservative administration and Reform UK chairing committees.
- Haringey: A minority Green Party administration has been formed.
- Hart: The coalition between the Liberal Democrats and Community Campaign Hart will continue to control the council.
- Hartlepool: Reform UK and the Conservatives have formed a coalition administration.
- Havant: The coalition between Labour, the Green Party and the Liberal Democrats will continue for another year.
- Huntingdonshire: An agreement has been reached to continue the coalition between the Liberal Democrats, HDC Independent Group and Green Party.
- Kingston upon Hull: The Liberal Democrats will continue to run the City Council as a minority.
- Leeds: Labour has formed a minority administration.
- Milton Keynes: The Liberal Democrats and Labour have agreed to continue their coalition, but as the Liberal Democrats are now the larger party they will take the council leadership.
- North East Lincolnshire: Reform UK have taken control of the council with a minority administration.
- Nuneaton and Bedworth: There will be a minority Reform UK administration; unusually the same person (George Finch) will be leader of both the borough council and Warwickshire county council.
- Oxford: Labour will continue to run the council as a minority administration.
- Pendle: The Pendle Community Independents and Liberal Democrats have agreed to continue their coalition administration.
- Peterborough: The coalition between Labour, Peterborough First and the Liberal Democrats is going to continue to run the council.
- Preston: A minority Labour administration will run the city.
- Rochford: Reform UK have formed a minority administration.
- Rugby: The coalition between Labour and Liberal Democrats will continue to control the council.
- Sheffield: Having fallen out with the Green Party, the Liberal Democrats have withdrawn from their share in the council administration. As a result there is now a coalition consisting of only Labour and the Green Party.
- Southampton: A minority Labour administration will run the council.
- Southend-on-Sea: Labour, the Green Party and the Liberal Democrats have formed a coalition to run the council.
- Swindon: A minority Conservative administration has been formed.
- Tamworth: There will be a minority Labour administration.
- Three Rivers: The Liberal Democrats will continue to run the council as a minority administration.
- Welwyn Hatfield: Labour and the Liberal Democrats will continue their coalition administration.
- West Lancashire: The Conservatives and Our West Lancashire have formed a coalition to run the council.
- West Oxfordshire: A Liberal Democrat / Labour / Green Party coalition administration will continue.
- West Sussex: The Liberal Democrats and Green Party have agreed a coalition administration.
- Worthing: A minority Labour administration has been formed.
