Independent 7. Largest authority in the South Wales Valleys, named after three of the rivers at bottom of them. Ex mining area, now popular for inward investment; largest towns are Aberdare and Pontypridd. Includes Llantrisant, unfairly tagged 'the hole with the Mint' (Royal Mint).

Labour held Tyn-y-Nant in a byelection on 22 July, and gained Penrhiwceiber from the Cynon Valley Party on 6 May.
