Non-aligned Independent 9, Durham County Council Independent Group 7 (also includes the Green Party), Spennymoor and Tudhoe Independent Group 2, Advance UK 1. Unitary council covering most of the historic north-eastern county; formerly dominated by mining and still an important manufacturing centre.

Jasmine Fox (Lower Teesdale) moved from Reform UK to ungrouped Independent in June 2026. Kenny Hope (Delves Lane), Andrew Harrison (Seaham) and Kate Rowland (Shildon and Dene Valley) moved from Reform UK to Independent in May 2026. Dawn Saunders (Peterlee) briefly left the Reform UK group in April 2026 before returning. Labour gained Murton from Reform UK at a byelection on 5 March. Nick Brown (West Auckland) moved from Reform UK to unaligned in February 2026. Michael Ramage (Shildon and Dene Valley) moved from Reform UK to ungrouped in February 2026.
