The government proposes to merge the council with Fareham, Havant, Portsmouth and parts of East Hampshire and Winchester, to form a new unitary South East Hampshire council in 2027. Kirsten Bradley (Lee East) moved from Liberal Democrat to Independent in January 2026. Reform UK gained a seat in Bridgemary from the Liberal Democrats at a byelection on 15 January.
