The government proposes to merge the council with East Staffordshire, Lichfield, South Staffordshire, Stafford and Tamworth to create a unitary Southern and Mid Staffordshire council in 2027. Steven Deakin (Etching Hill and The Heath) moved from Reform UK to Independent in July 2026. Julie Aston (Heath Hayes and Wimblebury) moved from Labour to Independent in March 2026, but returned in May 2026.
