The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
As usual for the week after the scheduled local elections, we report here only those byelections which took place where there were no regularly scheduled elections.
Amber Valley: The byelection in Crich and South Wingfield ward held on 2 May was won by Tony Harper. Conservative hold.
Bedford: The byelection in Riverfield ward held on 2 May was won by Hilde Hendrickx. Liberal Democrat hold.
Birmingham: The byelection in Bournbrook and Selly Park ward held on 2 May was won by Jamie Scott. Labour hold.
Croydon: The byelection in Park Hill and Whitgift ward held on 2 May was won by Andrew Price. Conservative hold.
Croydon: The byelection in Woodside ward held on 2 May was won by Jessica Rich. Labour hold.
Durham: The byelection in Horden division held on 2 May was won by June Clark. Labour hold.
East Devon: The byelection in Exmouth Brixington ward held on 2 May was won by Aurora Bailey. Conservative hold.
Essex: The byelection in Harlow South East division held on 2 May was won by Andrew Johnson. Conservative hold.
Hackney: The byelection in De Beauvoir ward held on 2 May was won by Jasmine Martins. Labour hold.
Hackney: The byelection in Hoxton East and Shoreditch ward held on 2 May was won by Faruk Tinaz. Labour hold.
Hampshire: The byelection in Fareham Sarisbury division held on 2 May was won by Joanne Burton. Conservative hold.
Hampshire: The byelection in Meon Valley division held on 2 May was won by Malcolm Wallace. Green Party gain from Conservative.
Hillingdon: The byelection in Hillingdon East ward held on 2 May was won by Kelly Martin. Conservative hold.
Hounslow: The byelection in Brentford West ward held on 2 May was won by Emma Yates. Labour regain a seat lost when the previous candidate left the party.
Huntingdonshire: The byelection in Great Paxton ward held on 2 May was won by James Catmur. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
Islington: The byelection in Hillrise ward held on 2 May was won by Ollie Steadman. Labour hold.
South Norfolk: The byelection in Bunwell ward held on 2 May was won by Suzanne Wateridge. Green Party gain from Conservative. As a result the Conservatives no longer have an overall majority on the council.
Worcestershire: The byelection in Evesham North West division held on 2 May was won by Mark Goodge. Conservative hold.
Change of allegiance
Bromley: Shaun Slator, who was elected for the Conservatives in St Mary Cray ward but expelled from the party in April last year, has been readmitted.
East Devon: Del Haggerty, who was elected for the Conservatives in Seaton ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent in the Democratic Alliance Group.
Essex: Ross Playle, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Witham Northern division but left the party in February, has now returned.
Hinckley and Bosworth: Chris Boothby, who was elected as a Conservative in Ratby, Bagworth and Thornton ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Isle of Wight: David Adams, who was elected as an Independent in Nettlestone and Seaview ward and had been sitting in the ‘Empowering Islanders’ group, has left it to sit as an Independent councillor.
King’s Lynn and West Norfolk: Charles Joyce, who was elected for the Labour Party in South and West Lynn ward, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent member.
Leeds: A new ‘Local Independents Party’ has been formed by Wyn Kidger (Morley South), who left the Morley Borough Independents in March; she has been joined by Trish Smith, who was elected for the Conservatives in Pudsey ward, and Bob Gettings who was elected for the Morley Borough Independents in Morley North ward.
Medway: Elizabeth Turpin, who was elected as a Conservative but left the party in February, has now joined the Independent group.
Powys: The Independent Group and Independents for Powys group have merged to form the Powys Independents, and been joined by two previously non-affiliated councillors.
Three Rivers: Ian Morris, who was elected for the Conservatives in Carpenders Park ward, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
West Northamptonshire: Jonathan Nunn, who was elected for the Conservatives in Nene Valley ward, has resigned the Conservative whip to sit as an Independent councillor.
Doncaster: Town ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Jake Kearsley. Term ends 2025.
Eilean Siar: Na Hearadh ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Grant Fulton. Term ends 2027.
Mid Devon: Tiverton Westexe ward, after the disqualification of Independent councillor Jamie Frost who was elected for the Liberal Democrats, but did not attend any council meetings for six months. Term ends 2027.
Oxfordshire: Sutton Courtenay and Marcham division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Richard Webber. Term ends 2025.
Ribble Valley: St Mary’s ward, after the resignation of Progressive Liberal group councillor Stewart Fletcher. Term ends 2027.
Telford and Wrekin: The Nedge ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Leanne Powers. Term ends 2027.
Vale of White Horse: Sutton Courtenay ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Richard Webber. Term ends 2027.
Dates for byelections
Greenwich: The byelection due in Mottingham, Coldharbour and New Eltham ward will be held on 13 June.
Mid Devon: The byelection due in Tiverton Westexe ward will be held on 20 June.
North Lincolnshire: The byelection due in Axholme North ward will be held on 6 June.
North Lincolnshire: The byelection due in Brumby ward will be held on 6 June.
Powys: The byelection due in Rhiwcynon division will be held on Tuesday 4 June.
Telford and Wrekin: The byelection due in The Nedge ward will be held on 6 June.
West Dunbartonshire: The byelection due in Clydebank Central ward will be held on 13 June.
Other updates
A large number of councils find themselves with no overall majority following last week’s local elections. Starting next week we will track the formation of administrations.
Coventry: The election on 4 May in Radford ward was postponed after the death of Dave Anderson, who had been nominated for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition.
Walsall: The Conservative Party has suspended council leader Mike Bird from the party. He is appealing the decision. Under the council constitution Bird will continue as council leader until 2027 or until removed from office. Walsall Conservative group have decided to form a ‘Conservative and Independent group’ to enable him to remain.
