Independents 4, Brighton and Hove Independents 2. City (status granted 2000) on the Sussex coast; a very cosmopolitan area. Resort town dependent on tourism and conferences, but also IT connected to the universities. In 2011 it became the first council to be controlled by the Green Party.

Jackie O’Quinn (Goldsmid) moved from Labour to Independent in February 2026. Bruno De Oliveira (Hollingdean and Fiveways) moved from Independent to Green Party in January 2026. Ty Galvin (Hanover and Elm Grove) was suspended from the Labour Party in November 2025.
