Brighton and Hove

Independents 4, Brighton and Hove Independents 2. City (status granted 2000) on the Sussex coast; a very cosmopolitan area. Resort town dependent on tourism and conferences, but also IT connected to the universities. In 2011 it became the first council to be controlled by the Green Party.

The Green Party gained a seat from Labour in Queen’s Park at a byelection on 24 September. Birgit Miller (Goldsmid) moved from Labour to Independent in August 2026. The Green Party gained Goldsmid from an Independent elected as Labour at a byelection on 25 June.
