Independent Group 28, non-aligned 3. Large rural area containing most of mid-Wales. Farming is the largest local industry; tourism is important (Brecon Beacons national park). Hay-on-Wye was converted to a book town by Richard Booth in the 1970s.

There are byelections in Llandrindod North and Newtown South on 24 October (held by an Independent and a Conservative respectively), and St Mary on 14 November (held by the Conservatives). Mark Barnes (Newtown Llanllwchaiarn West) moved from Conservative to non-aligned in June 2019.
