Independent Group 24, Action for Powys 4, non-aligned 2. Large rural area containing most of mid-Wales. Farming is the largest local industry; tourism is important (Brecon Beacons national park). Hay-on-Wye was converted to a book town by Richard Booth in the 1970s.

Labour gained St Mary from the Conservatives on 14 November. The Action for Powys group was formed in October 2019. At byelections on 24 October, the Liberal Democrats gained Llandrindod North from an Independent elected as a Conservative, while the Conservatives held Newtown South.
