Powys Independents 14, Non-affiliated 2. Large rural area containing most of mid-Wales. Farming is the largest local industry; tourism is important (Brecon Beacons national park). Hay-on-Wye was converted to a book town by Richard Booth in the 1970s.
At a byelection on 2 July the Liberal Democrats gained Yscir with Honddu Isaf and Llanddew from a Reform UK councillor elected for the Conservatives. Tom Colbert (Bronllys and Felin-fach) moved from Liberal Democrat to non-affiliated in May 2026, to Powys Independents in July 2026.
