The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
Eastleigh: The byelection in Hedge End South ward held on 22 May was won by John Shepherd. Liberal Democrat hold.
Sutton: The byelection in Carshalton South and Clockhouse ward held on 22 May was won by Lisa Webster. Liberal Democrat hold.
West Sussex: The byelection in Horsham Riverside division held on 22 May was won by Louise Potter. Liberal Democrat hold.
Defections
Aberdeenshire: Dominic Lonchay, who was elected for the Conservatives in East Garioch ward, but left the party last week, has now joined Reform UK. He has been joined by Laurie Carnie (Mearns ward), who had previously been an opposition Independent.
Bassetlaw: Fraser Merryweather, who was elected for the Labour Party in Worksop North East ward, has joined the Independent group.
Bolsover: Five councillors who were elected for the Labour Party have left to join the Independent group. They are former council leader Steve Fritchley (Langwith ward), Janet Tait (Shirebrook South ward), Rita Turner (Elmton with Creswell ward), Anne Clarke (Bolsover East ward) and Jen Wilson (Shirebrook North ward).
Breckland: Stephen Fraser, who was elected for the Conservatives in Attleborough Burgh and Haverscroft ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. Meanwhile Tina Kiddell (Watton ward), who left the Conservatives in May last year and had been in the Independent/Green group, has joined Reform UK.
Conwy: A new Citizens First Alliance group has been formed by three previously non-aligned councillors, Bernice McLoughlin (Towyn division), Dave Jones (Glyn y Marl division), and Paul Luckock (Pen-sarn Pentre Mawr division).
East Lindsey: The Skegness Urban District Society has split up. The three remaining members have gone three different ways. Mark Dannatt (Skegness St Clements ward) has joined Reform UK, Richard Cunnington (Skegness St Clements ward) has joined the East Lindsey Independent Group, and Billy Brookes (Skegness Scarbrough and Seacroft ward) is sitting as an unaffiliated Independent. Meanwhile Terry Knowles (Grimoldby ward) has moved from Independent to Reform UK.
East Suffolk: Julia Ewart, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Kelsale and Yoxford ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Maldon: It is noted that two councillors have left the District Support Group to sit as non-aligned Independents. They are Matthew Neall (Tillingham ward) and Adrian Fluker (Southminster ward).
Medway: Two councillors suspended from the Labour group over a year ago have been readmitted, restoring the Labour Party’s overall majority. They are Stephen Hubbard (Strood North and Frindsbury ward) and Satinder Shokar (Strood West ward).
Middlesbrough: Two Independent councillors have left the Middlesbrough Independent Councillors Association. They are Jim Platt and Sharon Platt, both of whom represent Kader ward.
North Somerset: Steve Bridger, an Independent councillor for Yatton ward, has joined the Liberal Democrat and Independent group. It seems that Mike Bird (Nailsea Yeo ward) is another recent recruit to this group.
Reigate and Banstead: Rod Ashford, who was elected for the Conservatives in Lower Kingswood, Tadworth and Walton ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Rushmoor: Calum Stewart, who was elected for the Conservatives in Knellwood ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. He was successfully nominated for Mayor of Rushmoor by the Labour group.
Sevenoaks: Kim Bayley, who was elected for the Conservatives in Dunton Green and Riverhead ward, has joined the West Kent Independents.
West Lindsey: Karen Carless, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Scotter and Blyton ward, has joined the Consensus Independent group.
Wrexham: A Progressive Independent group has been formed by two previously non-aligned councillors. They are Anthony Wedlake (Coedpoeth ward) and Jerry Wellens (Minera ward).
New vacancies
Bassetlaw: Ranskill ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Bamford. Term ends 2027.
North Tyneside: Killingworth ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Pat Oliver. Term ends 2028.
North Tyneside: Longbenton and Benton ward, after the disqualification of Labour councillor Linda Darke on election as Mayor of North Tyneside. Term ends 2026.
Powys: Llanidloes ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Gareth Morgan. Term ends 2027.
Rotherham: Keppel ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Carole Foster. Term ends 2028.
Surrey: Hinchley Wood, Claygate and Oxshott division, after the death of Conservative county councillor Mark Sugden. Term ends 2026.
Vale of White Horse: Botley and Sunningwell ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Debby Hallett. Term ends 2027.

Basildon: The byelection due in Wickford Park ward will be held on 26 June.
Chorley: The byelection due in Buckshaw and Whittle ward will be held on 26 June.
Edinburgh: The byelection due in Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart ward will be held on 26 June.
Greenwich: The byelection due in Shooters Hill ward will be held on 26 June.
Mid Devon: The byelection due in Crediton Lawrence ward will be held on 26 June.
North Tyneside: The byelection due in Killingworth ward will be held on Wednesday 2 July.
North Tyneside: The byelection due in Longbenton and Benton ward will be held on Wednesday 2 July.
Nottinghamshire: The byelection due in Newark West division will be held on 3 July.
Powys: The byelection due in Llanidloes ward will be held on 3 July.
Rossendale: The byelection due in Whitworth ward will be held on 26 June.
Rother: The byelection due in Catsfield and Crowhurst ward will be held on 26 June.
Sheffield: The byelection due in Stocksbridge and Upper Don ward will be held on 26 June.
Other updates
Buckinghamshire: A minority Conservative administration has been elected.
Colchester: Following two years in which the Liberal Democrats ran the council as a minority, the Labour group has once again agreed a coalition deal. The two groups were in coalition from 2008 to 2023 when the Labour NEC questioned the deal.
Cornwall: The Liberal Democrats have formed a coalition with the Independent group to control the council.
Devon: There will be a minority Liberal Democrat administration.
Gloucestershire: The Liberal Democrats have formed a minority administration.
Hertfordshire: The Liberal Democrats are to run the county council in a minority administration.
Northumberland: The Conservatives have formed a minority administration, on the understanding of support from the Independent group. One veteran Independent unable to agree, Steven Bridgett (Rothbury ward), has therefore decided not to join the Independent group.
Wiltshire: The Liberal Democrats have formed an administration in partnership with Independent councillors.
Worcestershire: Reform UK are to lead a minority administration.
