The elected Mayors have been Ray Mallon (Independent), Dave Budd (Labour), Andy Preston (Independent), and now Chris Cooke (Labour).

Christine Cooper (Trimdon) moved from Middlesbrough Independent Councillors Association to Independent in July 2025. Jim Platt and Sharon Platt (both Kader ward) moved from Middlesbrough Independent Councillors Association to Independent in May 2025.
