Independent 3. Railway town just outside Southampton, also including commuter village of Chandler's Ford and the yachting area of Hamble-le-Rice ('Howard's Way').

The government proposes to merge the council with Southampton and parts of New Forest and Test Valley, to form a new unitary South West Hampshire council in 2027. Hedge End South has a byelection on 30 July (held by the Liberal Democrats).
