The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
Corporation of London: The election for an Alderman for Aldersgate ward held on 26 May was won by Chris Makin.
Corporation of London: The election for an Alderman for Cordwainer ward held on 26 May was won by Alex Barr.
Corporation of London: The election for an Alderman for Cornhill ward held on 26 May was won by Robert Howard, who retained his seat.
Gedling: The byelection in Gedling ward held on 26 May was won by Lynda Pearson. Labour hold.
North Kesteven: The byelection in Sleaford Quarrington and Mareham ward held on 26 May was won by Bob Oldershaw. Lincolnshire Independents gain from Conservative.
Redbridge: The postponed poll in Mayfield ward held on 26 May was won by Labour candidates Jas Athwal, Tanweer Khan and Vanisha Solanki. This frees Jas Athwal to retain the leadership of the council which he has held since 2014.
Spelthorne: The byelection in Laleham and Shepperton Green ward held on 25 May was won by Stuart Whitmore. Green Party gain from Conservative.
Changes of allegiance
Ashford: Callum Knowles, who was elected for the Conservatives in Tenterden South ward, has left the party at the end of his Mayoral year, and is sitting as an Independent councillor. His move removes the Conservatives’ overall majority. It is also noted that Winston Michael (Goat Lees ward), who had been a member of the Ashford Independents group, has left it.
Hyndburn: The latest to leave the Labour group and sit as an Independent councillor is June Harrison (Barnfield ward).
Melton: Peter Faulkner, who was elected for the Conservatives in Melton Egerton ward, has left the party after the end of his Mayoral year, to sit as an Independent councillor.
Spelthorne: Ian Beardsmore, who was elected as an Independent, has declared his affiliation to the Conservative group.
West Suffolk: David Palmer, who was elected for the West Suffolk Independents in Brandon West ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
New vacancies
Camden: Hampstead Town ward, after the impending resignation of Labour councillor Adrian Cohen who had intended to be a paper candidate. Term ends 2026.
Chesterfield: Hollingwood and Inkersall ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Mick Bagshaw. Term ends 2023.
Guildford: Tillingbourne ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Richard Billington. Term ends 2023.
Corporation of London: Cordwainer ward, after the election of Common Councilman Alex Barr as an Alderman. Term ends 2025.
Wandsworth: Tooting Broadway ward, after the death of Labour councillor Andy Gibbons. Term ends 2026.
Welwyn Hatfield: Hatfield Central ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Glyn Hayes. Term ends 2023.
West Sussex: Worthing West division, after the resignation of Labour county councillor Dr Beccy Cooper to concentrate on her role as Leader of Worthing council. Term ends 2025.
Dates for byelections
Croydon: The byelection due in South Croydon ward will be held on 30 June.
Liverpool: The byelection due in Fazakerley ward will be held on 30 June.
South Derbyshire: The byelection due in Midway ward will be held on 30 June.
Wyre: The byelection due in Cleveleys Park ward will be held on 30 June.
Derby: The minority Conservative administration will continue in control for the next year.
Dumfries and Galloway: A ‘Rainbow Coalition’, involving the Scottish National Party, Labour, Independents and a Liberal Democrat councillor, has been formed to run the council.
Edinburgh: Although two Labour councillors refused to vote for it, a Labour minority administration will run the council after getting the support of Liberal Democrat and Conservative councillors.
