Independent 1. Immediately west of Edinburgh; largest town is Edinburgh overspill new town of Livingston, together with nearby former industrial area of Bathgate. Linlithgow in the north is now popular with commuters and growing more prosperous.

Whitburn and Blackburn has a byelection on 14 November (held by Labour). Labour gained a seat in Armadale and Blackridge ward from an Independent at a byelection on 22 August.
