Independent 1. Immediately west of Edinburgh; largest town is Edinburgh overspill new town of Livingston, together with nearby former industrial area of Bathgate. Linlithgow in the north is now popular with commuters and growing more prosperous.

The Scottish National Party gained a seat in East Livingston and East Calder from Labour at a byelection on 5 August.
