Independent 1. Immediately west of Edinburgh; largest town is Edinburgh overspill new town of Livingston, together with nearby former industrial area of Bathgate. Linlithgow in the north is now popular with commuters and growing more prosperous.

There is a byelection in Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh ward on 13 March (held by the Scottish National Party). Labour gained a seat in Armadale and Blackridge ward from an Independent at a byelection on 22 August.
