The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Doncaster: The byelection in Wheatley Hills and Intake ward held on 31 March was won by Yetunde Elebuibon. Labour hold.
  • Melton: The byelection in Melton Sysonby ward held on 31 March was won by Siggy Atherton. Conservative hold.
  • Scarborough: The byelection in Mayfield ward held on 31 March was won by John Nock. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Aberdeenshire: Alison Evison, who was elected for the Labour Party in North Kincardine ward, has left the party and is sitting as an unaligned Independent councillor.
  • Dudley: Zafar Islam, who was elected for the Labour Party in Brierley Hill ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Elmbridge: Barry Cheyne, who was elected for the Conservatives in Oatlands and Burwood Park ward, has joined The Walton Society.
  • Falkirk: John McLuckie, who was elected for the Labour Party in Upper Braes ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. Ann Ritchie, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in Bo’ness and Blackness ward, has also left her party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • High Peak: Samantha Flower, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Burbage ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Hyndburn: Eamonn Higgins, who was elected for the Labour Party in Huncoat ward, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • Luton: Abbas Hussain, who was elected for the Labour Party in Dallow ward, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned councillor.
  • Middlesbrough: Antony High, who was elected as an Independent in Ayresome ward and had been a member of the Middlesbrough Independent Group, has joined the Labour Party. It is also noted that Lee Garvey (Berwick Hills and Pallister ward) has left the Middlesbrough Independent Group and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • Pendle: Mohammed Adnan, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Marsden and Southfield ward, has joined the Labour Party.
  • Perth and Kinross: Colin Stewart, who was elected for the Conservatives in Strathmore ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Renfrewshire: Scott Kerr, who was elected for the Conservatives in Houston, Crosslee and Linwood ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Salford: Andrew Walters, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Kersal and Broughton Park ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Spelthorne: Bob Noble, who was elected for the Conservatives in Ashford Common ward, has left the party to sit as an unaffiliated Independent councillor.
  • Teignbridge: The Liberal Democrat Independent Group, formed by Andrew MacGregor (Bishopsteignton ward) and Alison Eden (Teignbmouth Central ward), has renamed itself the Anti-Violence and Positive Politics Group.

  • Blackburn with Darwen: Roe Lee ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Ron Whittle. Term ends 2023.
  • Calderdale: Ovenden ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Bryan Smith due to ill health. Term ends 2023.
  • Gedling: Gedling ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Jennifer Hemingway. Term ends 2023.
  • Harlow: Toddbrook ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Gareth Williams. Term ends 2023.
  • Leeds: Roundhay ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Jacob Goddard. Term ends 2023.
  • Liverpool: Fazakerley ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Lyndsey Melia. Term ends 2023.
  • Rother: Brede ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Jonathan Johnson. Term ends 2023.
  • Spelthorne: Laleham and Shepperton Green ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Mary Madams. Term ends 2023.

Other updates

  • When nominations closed for all councils in Scotland, three wards had fewer candidates nominated than there were council seats. Accordingly they will have byelections fixed for a point after 5 May in order to fill the vacancy. Wards affected are Eilean Siar (Barraigh agus Bhatarsaigh, and Sgìr’ Ùige agus Carlabhagh) and Shetland (North Isles).
