Independent Alliance 5 (the group also includes the Green Party), non-aligned Independent 3. Largest town in Bedfordshire; noted centre for car manufacturing and with a large international airport owned by the council.

Yarun Begum (Lewsey) and Rumi Chowdhury (Beech Hill) moved from Independent Alliance to Green Party in September 2026. A minority Labour administration was removed in September 2026. Saima Hussain (Saints) moved from Labour to non-aligned Independent, and Khtija Malik (Challney) moved from non-aligned Independent to Independent Alliance, in September 2026. David Franks (Barnfield) moved from Liberal Democrat to Independent in August 2026. The Independent Alliance was formed by six Labour councillors in July 2026. Reform UK gained a seat from the Liberal Democrats in Wigmore at a byelection on 2 April.
