The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Babergh: The byelection in Copdock and Washbrook ward held on 16 October was won by Marc Rowland. Reform UK gain from Liberal Democrat.
  • Preston: The byelection in Yateley West ward held on 16 October was won by Ronan Hodgson. Liberal Democrat gain from Labour.
  • Reigate and Banstead: The byelection in Meadvale and St John’s ward held on 16 October was won by Mark Johnston. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • South Ayrshire: The byelection in Ayr North ward held on 16 October was won by Wullie Hogg, who was an Independent candidate. He succeeds another Independent councillor who was elected for the Scottish National Party.
  • Spelthorne: The byelection in Staines ward held on 16 October was won by Laura Barker. Liberal Democrat gain from Green Party.
  • Surrey: The byelection in Camberley West division held on 16 October was won by Alan Ashbery. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Surrey: The byelection in Caterham Valley division held on 16 October was won by Tony Pearce. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Surrey: The byelection in Guildford South East division held on 16 October was won by Catherine Houston. Liberal Democrat gain from Residents 4 Guildford and Villages.
  • Tandridge: The byelection in Whyteleafe ward held on 16 October was won by Tony Pearce. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Trafford: The byelection in Broadheath ward held on 16 October was won by Dr Kaushik Chakraborty. Conservative gain from Labour.

Defections

  • Bristol: Fabian Breckels, who was elected for the Labour Party in St George Troopers Hill ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Cambridgeshire: Des Watt, who was elected for Reform UK in Yaxley and Farcet division, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned Independent county councillor.
  • Derbyshire: Paul Maginnis, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Sawley division, has joined Reform UK.
  • Erewash: Paul Maginnis, who was elected for the Conservatives in Sawley ward, has joined Reform UK. Meanwhile Lorna Maginnis, who was elected for the Conservatives in Nottingham Road ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Flintshire: Dennis Hutchinson, who was elected as an Independent councillor, has left the Independent group to join the True Independents.
  • Kensington and Chelsea: Toby Benton, who was elected for the Labour Party in Colville ward, has joined the Green Party.
  • Kent: Robert Ford, who was elected for Reform UK in Maidstone Rural West division, has been suspended from the party whip and is now sitting as an Independent county councillor.
  • Northumberland: Two councillors elected for Reform UK but suspended from the group in September have now been expelled. They are Nicole Brooke (Berwick North division) and Patrick Lambert (Norham and Islandshires division).
  • Norwich: Cate Oliver, who was elected for the Labour Party in Town Close ward but left the party in September 2023, has now joined the Green Party.
  • Portsmouth: Four members of the Portsmouth Independent Party have moved to Reform UK. They are Matthew Cordy and Russell Simpson (both Hilsea ward), Chris Dike (Paulsgrove ward) and Derek North (Cosham ward).
  • Redcar and Cleveland: Two councillors elected for the Labour Party in Zetland ward have left the party to sit as Independent councillors. They are Jade Lavan and Jonny Neal.
  • Swindon: Repi Begum, who was elected for the Labour Party in Lydiard and Freshbrook ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Tamworth: Two councillors elected for Labour have left the party. Gareth Coates (Spital ward) is now sitting as an Independent councillor, while Lee Wood (Castle ward) is sitting as an Independent Green councillor.
  • Tandridge: Lewis Sharp, who was elected for the Conservatives in Chaldon ward, has joined Reform UK.
  • Wirral: Richie Pitt, who was elected for the Labour Party in Pensby and Thingwall ward but left the party in July, has joined Your Party but remains an Independent on the council.
  • Wolverhampton: Celia Hibbert, who was elected for the Labour Party in Penn ward but left the party in September 2023 to sit as an Independent, has joined Reform UK.
  • Wrexham: Beverley Parry-Jones, who was elected for the Conservatives in Bryn Cefn ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.

New vacancies

  • Derbyshire: Long Eaton North division, after the resignation of Reform UK councillor Jack Bradley. Term ends 2029.
  • Redcar and Cleveland: South Bank ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Izzy Attwood. Term ends 2027.
  • Stratford-on-Avon: Quinton ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Dominic Skinner. Term ends 2027.
  • Stratford-on-Avon: Salford Priors and Alcester Rural ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lauren Stanley. Term ends 2027.
  • Trafford: Hale ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Owain Sutton. Term ends 2028.

  • Cheshire East: The byelection due in Macclesfield Central ward will be held on 20 November.
  • Redcar and Cleveland: The byelection due in South Bank ward will be held on 20 November.
  • Stratford-on-Avon: The byelection due in Quinton ward will be held on 20 November.
  • Stratford-on-Avon: The byelection due in Salford Priors and Alcester Rural ward will be held on 20 November.
  • Sunderland: The byelection due in Hetton ward will be held on 27 November.
  • Trafford: The byelection due in Hale ward will be held on 20 November.
