Independent 2. North midlands county which includes the Peak district in the north-east, and a large industrial area in the west. Had a famously left-wing Labour leadership under David Bookbinder from 1981 to 1992.
The Green Party gained Horsley from Reform UK at a byelection on 20 January. Reform UK held Long Eaton North at a byelection on 2 December. Paul Maginnis (Sawley) moved from Conservative to Reform UK in October 2025.
