The government proposes to merge the council with Fareham, Gosport, Havant, and parts of East Hampshire and Winchester, to form a new unitary South East Hampshire council in 2027. Emily Strudwick (Hilsea) and Lee Tindal (Copnor) moved from Portsmouth Independent Party to Reform UK in February 2026.
