Changes of allegiance

• Aberdeen: Alan Donnelly, who was elected for the Conservatives in Torry/Ferryhill ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor following a criminal conviction. His move may endanger the ruling coalition.
• Amber Valley: Henry Thompson, who was elected for the Conservatives in Heanor East ward, has been suspended from the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor over comments on Facebook.
• Basingstoke and Deane: A new Basingstoke and Deane Independents group has been formed by nine councillors who have left the Labour group, together with two councillors elected as Independents.
• Leicestershire: Ted Parton, who was elected for the Conservatives in Loughborough South division, has been suspended from membership and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
• Scarborough: Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff, who was elected as an Independent councillor for Hunmanby and was a member of the Independent group, has left it to sit as an unaffiliated councillor.

New vacancies

• Brent: Alperton ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor James Allie. Term ends 2022.
• Cheshire East: Crewe South ward, after the death of Labour councillor Dorothy Flude. Term ends 2023.
• Gateshead: Birtley ward, after the death of Labour councillor Neil Weatherley. Term ends 2023.
• Gloucestershire: Winchcombe and Woodmancote division, after the death of Conservative councillor Roger Wilson. Term ends 2021.
• Hartlepool: Manor House ward, after the resignation of David Mincher who was elected for the UK Independence Party but later joined the Brexit Party. His term was due to end in May so there will be no byelection.
• Salford: Kersal ward, after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor Peter Connor. His term was due to end in May so no byelection will be held.

Dates for byelections

• Brent: The byelection due in Alperton ward will be held on 23 January 2020.
• Bristol: The byelection due in Brislington East ward will be held on 16 January 2020.

Other updates

• The byelections for Watling South division on Staffordshire county council, and for Mercian ward on Tamworth borough council, which took place on Thursday, will not be counted until Tuesday 17 December.
