The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Castle Point: The byelection in St Peter’s ward held on 24 February was won by Michael Dixon. Conservative hold.
  • Durham: The byelection in Ferryhill division held on 24 February was won by Curtis Bihari. Labour gain from an Independent.
  • Lincolnshire: The byelection in Colsterworth Rural division held on 24 February was won by Charlotte Vernon. Conservative hold.
  • Maldon: The byelection in Wickham Bishops and Woodham ward held on 24 February was won by Simon Morgan. Conservative regain after the outgoing councillor left the party.
  • South Kesteven: The byelection in Aveland ward held on 24 February was won by Richard Dixon-Warren. Conservative regain a seat lost when the former councillor became an Independent.
  • South Kesteven: The byelection in Isaac Newton ward held on 24 February was won by Ben Green. Conservative hold.
  • Spelthorne: The byelection in Stanwell North ward held on 23 February was won by Jon Button. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • West Devon: The byelection in Tavistock North ward held on 17 February was won by David Turnbull. Conservative gain from Independent. The count was delayed due to Storm Eunice.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Barnet: Hendon ward, after the death of veteran Conservative councillor Anthony Finn. His term was due to end in May so no byelection will be held.
  • Croydon: Crystal Palace and Upper Norwood ward, after the reported disqualification of Labour councillor Pat Ryan who has not attended any council meeting in six months. His term would have ended in May so no byelection will follow.
  • Croydon: Norbury and Pollards Hill ward, after the reported disqualification of Labour councillor Shafi Khan who has not attended any council meeting in six months. As his term was to have ended in May, he will not be replaced at a byelection.
  • Highland: Nairn and Cawdor ward, after the death of Independent councillor Tom Heggie. His term would have ended in May so he will not be replaced.
  • Southend-on-Sea: Victoria ward, after the resignation of non-aligned councillor Jennifer Beck, who was elected for Labour. Term ends 2023.
  • Staffordshire: Burntwood North division, after the impending resignation of Independent councillor Tom Loughbrough-Rudd who was elected as a Conservative. Term ends 2025.
  • Surrey Heath: Bisley and West End ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Mansfield. Term ends 2023. As a result of his resignation the Conservatives no longer have an overall majority on the council.
  • Wigan: Hindley Green ward, after the death of Independent councillor Paul Maiden. His term was to have ended in May and therefore no byelection follows.

Dates for byelections

  • Doncaster: The byelection due in Wheatley Hills and Intake ward will be held on 31 March.
  • East Riding of Yorkshire: The byelection due in South Hunsley ward will be held on 7 April.
  • Melton: The byelection due in Melton Sysonby ward will be held on 31 March.
  • Mid Devon: The byelection due in Cullompton South ward will be held on 7 April.
  • Telford and Wrekin: The byelection due in Brookside ward will be held on 7 April.

Other updates

  • Maldon: A Conservative council leader and deputy leader has been elected. Committee chairs are held by the Independents so the council has in effect an all-party administration.
  • Worcester: The council has decided to go over to all-out council elections every four years, starting in 2024.
