The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Bolton: The byelection in Rumworth ward held on 30 July was won by Yusuf Davda. Independent gain from Labour.
  • Eastleigh: The byelection in Hedge End South ward held on 30 July was won by Jim Paine. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Isle of Anglesey: The byelection in Bro’r Llynnoedd ward held on 30 July was won by Jon Paul Taylor. Plaid Cymru hold.
  • South Holland: The byelection in Long Sutton ward held on 30 July was won by Robbie Woods. Reform UK take a seat previously held by an Independent.
  • Uttlesford: The byelection in Great Dunmow North ward held on 30 July was won by Will Church. Conservative gain from Residents 4 Uttlesford.

Defections

  • Cornwall: Bruce Craze, who as elected for Reform UK in Four Lanes, Beacon and Troon division, has joined Restore Britain. Meanwhile Dulcie Tudor, an Independent councillor for Threemilestone and Chacewater division, has left the Independent group to sit as a non-aligned councillor.
  • Dacorum: Ian Bristow, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Berkhamsted Castle ward but suspended from the party in September 2025, has been readmitted.
  • East Lothian: Liz Allan, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in North Berwick Coastal ward but suspended from the party last month, has now been readmitted.
  • Fife: Darren Watt, who was elected for the Conservatives in Cowdenbeath ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Flintshire: Marion Bateman, an Independent councillor for Northop ward, has left the True Independents group to sit as a non-aligned councillor.
  • King’s Lynn and West Norfolk: Alan Ryves, an Independent councillor for Methwold ward, has left the Independent Partnership to join the West Norfolk Independent Group. Meanwhile David Sayers, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Gaywood North Bank ward, has left the party but remains in the Independent Partnership group.
  • Luton: James Fletcher, who was elected for Reform UK in Wigmore ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Manchester: Shahbaz Sarwar, who was elected for the Workers Party of Britain in Longsight ward, has joined the Labour Party.
  • Oxfordshire: Paul-Austin Sargent, who was elected for the Conservatives in Banbury Grimsbury and Castle division, has moved to being an Independent councillor, although he remains in the Oxfordshire Alliance group which unites Conservatives and allied Independents.
  • St Albans: Chris Brazier, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Colney Heath ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • South Gloucestershire: Chris Davies, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Thornbury ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Sunderland: Glenn Gibbins, who was elected for Reform UK in Hylton Castle ward, has left the party group to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Warwick: Josh Payne, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Cubbington and Leek Wootton ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.

New vacancies

  • Bassetlaw: East Markham ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Gary Dinsdale. Term ends 2027.
  • Newark and Sherwood: Dover Beck ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Roger Jackson. Term ends 2027.
  • North West Leicestershire: Long Whatton and Diseworth ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Nick Rushton. Term ends 2027. His death places the ruling Conservative/Liberal Democrat/Independent administration in a minority.
  • Northumberland: Amble division, after the death of Reform UK councillor Arty Hume. Term ends 2029.
  • Nottinghamshire: Southwell division, after the death of Conservative councillor Roger Jackson. Term ends 2029.
  • South Kesteven: Grantham St Wulfram’s ward, after the resignation of Grantham Independent Group councillor Tim Harrison. Term ends 2027.
  • Stroud: Kingswood ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Holly Simkiss. Term ends 2028.

  • Bassetlaw: The byelection due in East Markham ward will be held on Tuesday 15 September.
  • North Somerset: The byelection due in Hutton and Locking ward will be held on 10 September.
  • Rhondda Cynon Taf: The byelection due in Llantwit Fardre ward will be held on 3 September.
  • Somerset: The byelection due in Frome West division will be held on 3 September.
  • South Lanarkshire: The byelection due in Avondale and Stonehouse ward will be held on 17 September.
  • Stroud: The byelection due in Kingswood ward will be held on Wednesday 2 September.
