The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Doncaster: The byelection in Bentley ward held on 21 August was won by Isaiah-John Reasbeck. Reform UK hold.
- East Hampshire: The byelection in Alton Amery ward held on 21 August was won by Lizzie Marshall. Liberal Democrat hold.
- East Renfrewshire: The byelection in Barrhead, Liboside and Uplawmoor ward held on 21 August was won by Julie Costello McHale. Labour hold.
- Gwynedd: The byelection in Abermaw ward held on 21 August was won by Wendy Cleaver, who was an Independent candidate as was the previous councillor.
- Hounslow: The byelection in Cranford ward held on 21 August was won by Hira Singh Dhillon. Labour hold.
- Runnymede: The byelection for two councillors in Addlestone South ward held on 21 August was won by Scott Kelly and Sam Newman. Reform UK gain two seats from Conservatives.
- Surrey: The byelection in Addlestone division held on 21 August was won by Scott Kelly. Reform UK gain from Conservative.
- Surrey: The byelection in Hinchley Wood, Claygate and Oxshott division held on 21 August was won by Andy Burton. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
Defections
- Barnsley: Trevor Smith, who was elected for the Labour Party in Darfield ward, has announced his intention to join Reform UK but has not yet been accepted and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
- Burnley: Jeff Sumner, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Rosehill with Burnley Wood ward, has joined Reform UK.
- East Lindsey: Carleen Dickinson, who was elected as an Independent councillor for Friskney ward and had been a member of the East Lindsey Independent Group, has joined Reform UK.
- Fife: Julie MacDougall, who was elected for the Labour Party in Burntisland, Kinghorn and Western Kirkcaldy, has joined Reform UK. It is noted that Robin Lawson (St Andrews ward), who joined Reform UK in May, is sitting as an Independent rather than a Reform UK councillor.
- Liverpool: Steve Munby, who was elected for the Labour Party in Dingle ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Newcastle-under-Lyme: Susan Beeston, who was elected for the Labour Party in Holditch and Chesterton ward but left the party in November 2023, has now joined the Conservative Party.
- Preston: Carol Henshaw, who was elected for the Labour Party in City Centre ward but suspended from the party in March, has joined the Preston Independents.
- Sefton: Mike Morris, who was elected for the Conservatives in Cambridge ward, has joined Reform UK.
- Swansea: Francesca O’Brien, who was elected for the Conservatives in Mumbles ward, has joined Reform UK.
- Tameside: Following the conclusion of the Labour Party’s investigation into a Whatsapp group, the suspensions of six members have ended and they have returned to the party: Allison Gwynne, Vincent Ricci and Denise Ward (Denton North East ward), George Jones and Brenda Warrington (both Denton West ward), and Claire Reid (Denton South ward). However Vinctent Ricci has left the party anyway in protest at his treatment.
- Tunbridge Wells: David Knight, who was elected for the Tunbridge Wells Alliance in Rural Tunbridge Wells ward, has left the group to sit as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- Fife: Buckhaven, Methil and Wemyss Villages ward, after the disqualification of Independent councillor David Graham who was elected for the Labour Party. Term ends 2027.
- Isle of Wight: Lake North ward, after the resignation of Reform UK councillor David Maclean. Term ends May next year.
- Maidstone: Harrietsham, Lenham and North Downs ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Kathy Cox. Term ends 2028.
- Manchester: Woodhouse Park ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Anastasia Wiest. Term ends 2027.
Dates for byelections
- Breckland: The byelection due in Thetford Castle ward will be held on Wednesday 24 September.
- Brentwood: The byelection due in Hutton South ward will be held on 2 October.
- Fife: The byelection due in Buckhaven, Methil and Wemyss Villages ward will be held on 6 November.
- Isle of Wight: The byelection due in Lake North ward will be held on 2 October.
- Manchester: The byelection due in Woodhouse Park ward will be held on 25 September.
- Teignbridge: The byelection due in Kenn Valley ward will be held on 9 October.
