The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Braintree: The byelection in Braintree South ward held on 10 November was won by Martin Green. Labour gain from an Independent elected as a Conservative.
  • Braintree: The byelection in Coggeshall ward held on 10 November was won by Dennis Abram. Independent hold.
  • Broxtowe: The byelection in Greasley ward held on 10 November was won by Linsey Ellis. Conservative hold.
  • Burnley: The byelection in Rosehill with Burnley Wood ward held on 10 November was won by Bill Horrocks. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Cannock Chase: The byelection in Cannock West ward held on 10 November was won by Bill Kenny. Conservative hold.
  • East Devon: The byelection in Newton Poppleford and Harpford ward held on 10 November was won by Chris Burhop. Independent hold.
  • King’s Lynn and West Norfolk: When nominations closed for the byelection in Gaywood Clock ward, only one candidate was nominated and accordingly Alexandra Ware was elected unopposed on 4 November. Labour hold.
  • Kingston-upon-Thames: The byelection in Green Lane and St James ward held on 10 November was won by Yvonne Tracey. Kingston Independent Residents Group gain from Liberal Democrat.
  • South Kesteven: The byelection in Bourne East ward held on 10 November was won by Julia Reid. Conservative hold.
  • South Kesteven: The byelection in Grantham St Wulfram’s ward held on 10 November was won by Mary Whittington. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Bassetlaw: Gerald Bowers, who was elected for the Conservatives in Ranskill ward and was the group leader, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Cherwell: Hannah Banfield, who was elected for the Labour Party in Banbury Cross and Neithrop ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Dudley: Anne Millward, who was elected for the Conservatives in Gornal ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Guildford: Tony Rooth, who was elected for Residents of Guildford and Villages in Pilgrims ward, has left the group to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • North East Derbyshire: Paul Parkin, who was elected for the Conservatives in Dronfield North ward, and was portfolio holder for finance, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Oxfordshire: Hannah Banfield, who was elected for the Labour Party in Banbury Grimsbury and Castle division, has left the party to sit as an Independent county councillor.
  • Sandwell: Ahmad Bostan, who was elected for the Labour Party in Abbey ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Scarborough: Theresa Norton, who was elected for the Labour Party in Eastfield ward, has left the party and is sitting among the no political affiliation councillors. She was arrested on a ‘Just Stop Oil’ demonstration.
  • Torridge: Rachel Clarke, who was elected for the Conservatives in Two Rivers and Three Moors ward, has left the party to join the Independent group.

New vacancies

  • Cannock Chase: Etching Hill and The Heath ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor James Fletcher. Term ends 2026.
  • Chelmsford: Boreham and the Leighs ward, after the death of Mayor of Chelmsford John Galley who was a veteran Conservative councillor. Term ends May next year.
  • Dartford: Wilmington, Sutton-at-Hone and Hawley ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Ellenor Palmer. As her term would have ended in May, no byelection can be held.
  • Eastbourne: Sovereign ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Paul Metcalfe. As his term was due to end in May, he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Ipswich: Priory Heath ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Sarah Barber. Term ends 2024.
  • Liverpool: Knotty Ash ward, after the resignation of Liverpool Community Independent councillor Alison Clarke, who was elected for Labour. Her term would have ended next May so no byelection may be held.
  • Sevenoaks: Farningham, Horton Kirby and South Darenth ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Brian Carroll. He will not be replaced in a byelection as his term would have ended next May.
  • Uttlesford: Great Dunmow South and Barnston ward, after the resignation of Residents for Uttlesford councillor Colin Day. Term ends next May.

Dates for byelections

  • Ipswich: The byelection due in Priory Heath ward will be held on 15 December.
  • Corporation of London: An election for the Alderman of Aldgate ward will be held on 8 December.
  • Corporation of London: An election for the Alderman of Farringdon Without ward will be held on 8 December.
  • Corporation of London: An election for the Alderman of Queenhithe ward will be held on 8 December.
  • Pendle: The byelection due in Barrowford and Pendleside ward will be held on 15 December.
  • Test Valley: The byelection due in Andover Romans ward will be held on 15 December.
  • Wigan: The byelection due in Ashton ward will be held on 15 December.
