The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • South Cambridgeshire: The byelection in Cottenham ward held on 16 March was won by Eileen Wilson, who returns to the seat she held from 2018 to 2022. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Stirling: The byelection in Dunblane and Bridge of Allan ward held on 16 March was won by Robin Kleinman. Conservative gain from Scottish National Party.

Changes of allegiance

  • Ashford: Trish Cornish, who was elected as an Ashford Independent councillor for Park Farm North ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
  • Cannock Chase: Mandy Dunnett, who was elected for the Green Party in Hednesford North ward but joined the Chase Community Independents in June 2020, has now joined the Labour Party. Lisa Wilson, who was elected for the Conservatives in Heath Hayes East and Wimblebury ward, has also joined the Labour Party.
  • Hampshire: Alexis McEvoy, who was elected for the Conservatives in South Waterside division, has been suspended from the party and is sitting as an unaffiliated Independent councillor.
  • Horsham: Billy Greening, who was elected for the Conservatives in Southwater North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Leicester: Patrick Kitterick, who was elected for the Labour Party in Castle ward, had the whip withdrawn earlier this week and has now joined the Green Party. Two other Labour councillors have had the whip suspended: Ross Willmott and Rita Patel (both representing Rushey Mead ward). In addition Stephan Gee (Thurncourt ward) has left the Labour Party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • New Forest: Alexis McEvoy, who was elected for the Conservatives in Fawley, Blackfield and Langley ward, has been suspended from the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • Rochford: Bob Milne, who was elected for the Conservatives in Lodge ward, has left the party to sit as an ungrouped councillor.

New vacancies

  • Cambridge: Castle ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Sarah Baigent. Term ends 2024.
  • Cambridgeshire: Arbury division, after the resignation of Labour county councillor Hilary Cox Condron. Term ends 2025.
  • Cotswold: Coln Valley ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Ray Theodolou. His term would have ended in May so no byelection follows.
  • Cumbria: Morton division, after the death of Labour county councillor John Bell. The council will be abolished in two weeks’ time.
  • Darlington: Red Hall and Lingfield ward, after the death of Labour councillor Hilary Lucas. Her term was due to end in May so she will not be replaced.
  • Derbyshire Dales: Masson ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Garry Purdy who was elected as a Conservative. His term was due to end in May so there will be no byelection.
  • Dudley: St Thomas’ ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Maz Qari. Term ends 2026.
  • Hampshire: Purbrook and Stakes South division, after the resignation of Conservative county councillor Gary Hughes. Term ends 2025.
  • Knowsley: Prescot North ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Carl Cashman. Term ends 2024.
  • Manchester: Ardwick ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Bernard Priest. Term ends 2024.
  • North Lanarkshire: Bellshill ward, after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Jordan Linden. Term ends 2027.
  • North Tyneside: Camperdown ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Lisa Ferasin. Term ends 2026.
  • Preston: Preston Rural East ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Graham Joliffe. Term ends 2024.
  • Reading: Park ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Brenda McGonigle. Term ends 2024.
  • Surrey: Walton South and Oatlands division, after the resignation of Conservative county councillor Tony Samuels. Term ends 2025.
  • Worcestershire: Malvern Chase division, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat county councillor Jack Satterthwaite. Term ends 2025.

Dates for byelections

  • Enfield: The byelection due in Bullsmoor ward will be held on 20 April.
  • Essex: The byelection due in Laindon Park and Fryerns division will be held on 4 May.
  • Suffolk: The byelection due in Felixstowe Coastal division will be held on 4 May.
  • Warrington: The byelection due in Latchford West ward will be held on 20 April.
  • West Sussex: The byelection due in East Grinstead Meridian division will be held on 4 May.
