The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
Staffordshire: The byelection in Biddulph North division held on 19 January was won by Nigel Yates. Labour gain from Conservative.
Staffordshire Moorlands: The byelection for two seats in Biddulph West ward held on 19 January was won by Charlie Smith and Dave Proudlove. Labour gains two seats, from a Conservative and an Independent.
Stevenage: The byelection in Bedwell ward held on 19 January was won by Conor McGrath. Labour hold.
Changes of allegiance
Amber Valley: Sheena Trower, who was elected for the Conservatives in Langley Mill and Aldercar ward, has left the party following the suspension of Alex Stevenson last week, and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
Arun: Ian Buckland, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in River ward but left the party in early 2021 and had been sitting as an ‘Independent Independent’ councillor, has now returned to the party.
Cheshire West and Chester: Mandy Clare, who was elected for the Labour Party in Winsford Dene ward but left it in March 2022 and joined the Socialist Labour Party in October, is now sitting as a non-aligned Independent.
Cornwall: Paul Wills, who was elected as an Independent in St Columb Major, St Mawgan and St Wenn division, has designated himself as an Independent Conservative Aligned councillor.
Hertsmere: Paul Morris, who was elected for the Conservatives in Bushey Heath ward but left the party in September, has now returned.
Horsham: Jonathan Chowen, who was elected for the Conservatives in Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead ward and was the council leader, has resigned his post and left the party to sit as an Independent councillor, after a vote to defer the local plan until after the full council election in May. Meanwhile, Alan Britten, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Roffey South ward, has joined the Conservatives following his deselection.
Pendle: Neil McGowan, who was elected for the Conservatives in Marsden and Southfield ward but left the party in October last year, has now returned.
Peterborough: Ansar Ali, who was elected for the Labour Party in North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. Meanwhile the Werrington First group appears to have disbanded.
South Kesteven: Rosemary Trollope-Bellew, who was elected for the Conservatives in Casewick ward, has left the party to sit as an unaligned Independent councillor.
Stoke-on-Trent: Jo Woolner, who was elected for the Labour Party in Abbey Hulton and Townsend ward, has been suspended from the group and is sitting as an Independent councillor following her arrest.
Derbyshire Dales: Hathersage and Eyam ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Claire Raw who was in a group with the Green Party. She was elected for the Labour Party. No byelection ensues as the term ends in May.
Haringey: Tottenham Hale ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Yannis Gourtsoyannis. Term ends 2026.
Kent: Sheppey division, after the death of Conservative county councillor Cameron Beart. Term ends 2025.
Leeds: Headingley and Hyde Park ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Neil Walshaw. He will not be replaced as his term was due to end in May.
Lichfield: Fazeley ward, after the disqualification of Conservative councillor James Parton-Hughes who failed to attend any meetings in six months. There will be no byelection before the full council elections in May.
Swale: Queenborough and Halfway ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Cameron Beart. No byelection follows as his term was due to end in May.
Tandridge: Lingfield and Crowhurst ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Liz Lockwood. She will not be replaced as her term would have ended in May.
Wrexham: Smithfield ward, after the resignation of Plaid Cymru councillor Paul Williams. Term ends 2027.
Dates for byelections
Haringey: The byelection due in Tottenham Hale ward will be held on 9 March.
Wrexham: The byelection due in Smithfield ward will be held on 23 February.
