The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Ashfield: The byelection in Hucknall Central ward held on 23 November was won by Nick Parvin. Ashfield Independents hold.
  • Bassetlaw: The byelection in Sutton ward held on 24 November was won by Darrell Pulk. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Isle of Wight: The byelection in Brighstone, Calbourne and Shalfleet division held on 24 November was won by Nick Stuart. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Sefton: The byelection in Linacre ward held on 24 November was won by Dan McKee. Labour hold.
  • Warrington: The byelection in Rixton and Woolston ward held on 24 November was won by Rob Tynan, by three votes after a recount. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Broadland: Justine Thomas, who was elected for the Conservatives in Blofield with South Walsham ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Melton: Christopher Evans, who was elected as an Independent in Long Clawson and Stathern ward, and was in the Opposition group, has joined the Conservative Party.
  • North East Derbyshire: Anthony Hutchinson, who was elected for the Conservatives in Coal Aston ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. His move means the Conservatives no longer have an overall majority on the council.
  • Rochford: The Rochford District Residents group has suffered a split. Four members have formed an ‘Independent and Green’ group together with the current Green Party councillor. They are Michael Hoy and Tracey Knight (both Hullbridge ward), Richard Lambourne (Lodge ward) and Lisa Newport (Sweyne Park and Grange ward). In addition Toni Carter (Hawkwell West ward) has left the group to join the Conservatives.
  • Wakefield: Tony Homewood, who was elected for the Conservatives in Ossett ward and was the group leader, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.

New vacancies

  • Allerdale: All Saints Cockermouth ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Alan Tyson. The council is to be abolished at the end of March so there is to be no byelection.
  • Barnsley: Dearne North ward, after the death of Labour councillor Alan Gardiner. His term was scheduled to end in May so he will not be replaced through a byelection.
  • Boston: Swineshead and Holland Fen ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chelcei Trafford. Her term was due to end in May so no byelection will be held.
  • Cheshire East: Handforth ward, after the death of Handforth Ratepayers’ Association councillor Barry Burkhill. No byelection follows because his term was due to end next May.
  • Derby: Chaddesden ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Rob Cooper. Term ends 2026 (though is likely to be cut short to next May when boundary changes are implemented).
  • Hertfordshire: Hitchin North division, after the death of Labour county councillor Judi Billing. Term ends 2025.
  • Kent: Hythe West division, after the resignation of Independent county councillor Andy Weatherhead, who was elected as a Conservative, following an investigation by Hope Not Hate. Term ends 2025.
  • North Hertfordshire: Hitchin Bearton ward, after the death of veteran Labour councillor Judi Billing. Her term was due to end next May so there will be no byelection.
  • Plymouth: Moor View ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Shannon Burns who has moved away from the district. Term ends 2024.
  • Plymouth: Plympton Chaddlewood ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Dan Collins who has moved away from the district. Term ends 2024.
  • Selby: Sherburn in Elmet ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Bob Packham. The authority is due to be abolished at the end of March and no byelection follows.
  • South Kesteven: Peascliffe and Ridgeway ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Rosemary Kaberry-Brown. Her term was due to end next May so no byelection ensues.
  • Tonbridge and Malling: West Malling and Leybourne ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Nick Stapleton, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats. No byelection will be held as his term was due to end next May.
  • Torfaen: Llantarnam ward, after the resignation of Individual Independent councillor Nick Jones. Term ends 2027.
