The government proposes to merge the council with Bassetlaw, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, and parts of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe, to create a unitary North and East Nottinghamshire council in 2027. The leader and deputy leader have both been charged with criminal offences but are not suspended.
