The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Adur: The byelection in Hillside ward held on 2 December was won by Leila Williams. Conservative hold.
  • Breckland: The byelection in Hermitage ward held on 2 December was won by Robert Hambidge. Conservative hold.
  • Highland: The byelection in Fort William and Ardnamurchan ward held on 2 December was won by Sarah Fanet. Scottish National Party gain from Conservative.
  • Lancaster: The byelection in Bare ward held on 2 December was won by Gerry Blaikie. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Lancaster: The byelection in Upper Lune Valley ward held on 2 December was won by Ross Hunter. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Newport: The byelection in Victoria division held on 2 December was won by Gavin Horton. Labour hold.
  • North Norfolk: The byelection in Stalham ward held on 2 December was won by Matthew Taylor. Conservative gain from Liberal Democrat.
  • Warwick: The byelection in Whitnash ward held on 2 December was won by Adrian Barton. Whitnash Residents’ Association hold.
  • Wealden: The byelection in Hartfield ward held on 2 December was won by Rachel Millward. Green Party gain from Conservative.
  • Worthinig: The byelection in Marine ward held on 2 December was won by Vicki Wells. Labour gain from Conservative; the result may mean the Conservative administration is voted out.
  • Wyre Forest: The byelection in Franche and Habberley North ward held on 30 November was won by David Ross. Conservative gain from Independent Health Concern.

Changes of allegiance

  • Havant: Tom Moutray, who was elected for the Conservatives in Battins ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor, in opposition to government policy on COVID vaccination.
  • Newham: Nazir Ahmed, who was elected for the Labour Party in Little Ilford ward, has left the party; he has also been named as a candidate for the Aspire Party in next year’s Tower Hamlets elections, but is sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • Plymouth: Nick Kelly, who was elected for the Conservatives in Compton ward, has been suspended from the party over comments on a local murder case. He remains Leader of the Council but is sitting as an Independent member.
  • South Derbyshire: Andrew Churchill, who was elected for the Conservatives in Repton ward, has left the party to sit as a non-grouped councillor.

New vacancies

  • Dacorum: Berkhamsted West ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Nicky Woolner. Term ends 2023.
  • Dacorum: Boxmoor ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Liz Uttley. Term ends 2023.
  • East Lindsey: Chapel St Leonard’s ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Paul Hibbert-Greaves. Term ends 2023.
  • East Lindsey: Halton Holegate ward, after the death of New East Lindsey Independent Group councillor Jim Swanson. Term ends 2023.
  • Fife: St Andrews ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Dominic Nolan. His term was due to end next May so no byelection will be held.
  • Hounslow: Bedfont ward, after the death of Labour councillor Javed Akhunzada. As his term would have ended in May, he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Leicester: Evington ward, after the death of Labour councillor Ratilal Govind. Term ends 2023.
  • Manchester: Ancoats and Beswick ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Marcia Hutchinson. Term ends 2024.
  • New Forest: Hythe West and Langdown ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Rebecca Clark. Term ends 2023.
  • Newark and Sherwood: Collingham ward, after the death of Independent councillor Maureen Dobson. Term ends 2023.
  • Nottinghamshire: Collingham division, after the death of Independent county councillor Maureen Dobson. Term ends 2025.
  • Solihull: Castle Bromwich ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Cheryl Buxton-Sait. Her term would have ended in May so there will be no byelection.

Date for byelection

  • Wychavon: The byelection due in The Littletons ward will be held on 13 January 2022.
