Warrington gets the Abbey habit

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Result

  • Warrington: The byelection in Burtonwood and Winwick ward held on 6 February was won by Alex Abbey. Labour hold.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Amber Valley: Kilburn, Denby and Holbrook ward, after the death of veteran Conservative councillor Norman Bull. His term would have ended in May, so there will be no byelection.
  • Bolton: Westhoughton North and Chew Moor ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Christine Wild. Her term was due to end in May so no byelection will be held.
  • Canterbury: Westgate ward, after the death of Labour councillor Gill Gower. Term ends 2023.
  • Cheshire East: Crewe West ward, after the death of Labour councillor Brian Roberts. Term ends 2023.
  • Northumberland: Alnwick division, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Robbie Moore, now Member of Parliament for Keighley. Term ends 2021.
  • Sandwell: Wednesbury South ward, after the death of Labour councillor Bob Lloyd. Term ends 2022.
  • Sheffield: Broomhill and Sharrow Vale ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Michelle Cook due to ill health. As her term would have ended in May, she will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • South Somerset: Parrett ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Tony Vaughan. Term ends 2023.
  • Thanet: Newington ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Karen Constantine. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • Clackmannanshire: The byelection due in Clackmannanshire East ward will be held on 19 March.
  • Stratford-on-Avon: The byelection due in Welford-on-Avon ward will be held on 12 March.
