The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

Defections

  • Barking and Dagenham: Lynda Rice, who was elected for the Labour Party in Longbridge ward but left has left the party in December 2022, has now joined the Conservative Party.
  • Bracknell Forest: Two councillors elected for the Labour Party have formed the Bracknell Forest Independents. They are Cherise Welch (Harmans Water and Crown Wood ward) and Caroline Egglestone (Bullbrook ward). As a result Labour has lost its overall majority on the council.
  • Doncaster: Christopher Marriott, who was elected for Reform UK in Armthorpe ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • East Riding of Yorkshire: David Nolan, who was elected in Hessle ward for the Liberal Democrats but joined the Labour Party in January 2024, has now left that party to sit as an Independent.
  • Harborough: Geraldine Whitmore, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Market Harborough Logan ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. As a result the Liberal Democrat/Labour/Green Party administration no longer has a majority.
  • Lichfield: Jeyan Anketell, who was elected for the Labour Party in St John’s ward, has joined the Green Party.
  • Rother: Jimmy Stanger, who was elected as a Rother Association of Independents councillor for Bexhill St Marks ward, has joined the Liberal Democrats.
  • Suffolk: Sam Murray, who was elected for the Conservatives in Whitehouse and Whitton division, has left the party to sit as an Independent county councillor.
  • West Lancashire: Paul Hogan, who was elected for the Labour Party in Tanhouse and Skelmersdale Town Centre ward, has joined Your Party.
  • Wrexham: Robert Ian Williams, who was elected for the Conservatives in Bangor-is-y-Coed ward, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned councillor.

New vacancies

  • Highland: Fort William ward, after the impending resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Sarah Fanet, taking place at the end of October. Term ends 2027.
  • Sunderland: Hetton ward, after the death of Labour councillor Claire Rowntree. Term ends May next year.
  • Torridge: Winkleigh ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Newton. Term ends 2027.

  • Burnley: The byelection due in Lanehead ward will be held on Tuesday 4 November.
  • Burnley: The byelection due in Queensgate ward will be held on Tuesday 4 November.
  • Dumfries and Galloway: The byelection due in Stranraer and the Rhins ward will be held on 20 November.
  • Newark and Sherwood: The byelection due in Balderton North and Coddington ward will be held 6 November.
  • Newark and Sherwood: The byelection due in Castle ward will be held 6 November.
  • North Somerset: The byelection due in Long Ashton ward will be held on 13 November.
  • Tandridge: The byelection due in Lingfield, Crowhurst and Tandridge ward will be held on 6 November.
  • Tandridge: The byelection due in Westway ward will be held on 6 November.
  • Vale of White Horse: The byelection due in Ridgeway ward will be held on 13 November.
