The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Plymouth: The byelection in Moor View ward held on 12 January was won by Will Noble. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Plymouth: The byelection in Plympton Chaddlewood ward held on 12 January was won by Lauren McLay. Green Party gain from Conservative. The combined effect of the byelections and defection noted below leave the Conservative administration vulnerable to being removed from office.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Broxbourne: Hoddesdon Town and Rye Park ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Aran Banks. He will not be replaced in a byelection as his term was due to end in May.
  • Burnley: Whittlefield with Ightenhill ward, after the resignation of Burnley and Padiham Independent Party councillor Emma Payne. Her term was due to end in May so no byelection follows.
  • South Staffordshire: Featherstone and Shareshill ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Frank Beardsmore. His term was due to end in May so he will not be replaced.
  • Staffordshire: Watling South division, after the resignation of Conservative county councillor Richard Ford. Term ends 2025.

Dates for byelections

  • Barnet: The byelection due in Golders Green ward will be held on 16 February.
  • Cornwall: The byelection due in Long Rock, Marazion and St Erth division will be held on 16 February.
  • Dartford: The byelection due in Wilmington, Sutton-at-Hone and Hawley ward will be held on 9 February. The former councillor died just before the six months limit within which vacancies cannot be filled in a byelection.
  • Edinburgh: The byelection due in Corstorphine/Murrayfield ward will be held on 9 March.
  • Sefton: The byelection due in Netherton and Orrell ward will be held on 16 February.
