Shropshire town goes Labour

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Birmingham: The byelection in Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath East ward held on 6 October was won by Saima Ahmed. Labour hold.
  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole: The byelection in Highcliffe and Walkford ward held on 6 October was won by Andy Martin. Christchurch Independent hold.
  • Ceredigion: The byelection in Lampeter ward held on 6 October was won by Ann Bowen Morgan. Plaid Cymru gain from Labour.
  • Eastbourne: The byelection in St Anthony’s ward held on 6 October was won by Hugh Parker. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Mendip: The byelection in Butleigh and Baltonsborough ward held on 6 October was won by Ken Maddock, who returns to the council. Conservative hold by four votes.
  • Shropshire: The byelection in Bridgnorth West and Tasley division held on 6 October was won by Rachel Connolly. Labour gain from Conservative.

New vacancies

  • Blackburn with Darwen: Darwen South ward, after the disqualification of Independent councillor Andrew Walker who did not attend any meetings of the council in six months. He had been elected as a Conservative but suspended from group membership. Term ends 2024.
  • Dumfries and Galloway: Mid Galloway and Wigtown West ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Sandy Whitelaw. Term ends 2027.
  • Kingston-upon-Thames: Green Lane and St James ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Tim Cobbett. Term ends 2026.
  • Medway: Peninsula ward, after the death of Independent councillor Mick Pendergast. Term ends May next year.
  • North Devon: Landkey ward, after the resignation of North Devon Independent councillor David Luggar, who was elected for the Conservatives. Term ends May next year.
  • Pendle: Barrowford and Pendleside ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Carlo Lionti. Term ends May next year. As a result the Conservatives no longer have an overall majority.
  • South Kesteven: Grantham St Wulfram’s ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jacky Smith. Term ends May next year.
  • Wigan: Ashton ward, after the death of Labour councillor Anthony Sykes. Term ends May next year.

  • Blackpool: The byelection due in Greenlands ward will be held on 17 November.
  • Broxtowe: The byelection due in Greasley ward will be held on 10 November.
  • Burnley: The byelection due in Rosehill with Burnley Wood ward will be held on 10 November.
  • East Devon: The byelection due in Newton Poppleford and Harpford ward will be held on 10 November.
  • Glasgow: The byelection due in Linn ward, will be held on 17 November.
  • Kingston-upon-Thames: The byelection due in Green Lane and St James ward will be held on 10 November.
  • Lichfield: The byelection due in Chasetown ward will be held on 3 November.
  • South Kesteven: The byelection due in Bourne East ward will be held on 10 November.
  • South Kesteven: The byelection due in Grantham St Wulfram’s ward will be held on 10 November.
  • Suffolk: The byelection due in Beccles division will be held on 17 November.
  • West Lothian: The byelection due in Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh ward will be held on 1 December.
