Independent 1. Largest council in Scotland; historic shipbuilding on the River Clyde. Some working class parts of the city are infamously poor but give a misleading impression about the rest.

North East and Southside Central wards have vacant seats (both held by Labour). Labour gained a seat in Partick East/Kelvindale from the Scottish National Party, at a byelection on 5 December. Labour held seats in Drumchapel/Anniesland, Maryhill and North East wards at byelections on 21 November.
