The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Cambridge: The byelection in Trumpington ward held on 18 August was won by David Levien. Liberal Democrat hold.
Wyre: The byelection in Preesall ward held on 18 August was won by Collette Rushforth. She was an Independent candidate opposed to the development of Preesall Quarry, and gained the seat from the Conservatives.
Changes of allegiance
Amber Valley: Henry Thompson, who was elected for the Conservatives in Heanor East ward, has left the party group to sit as an Independent councillor.
Braintree: Nick Unsworth, who was elected for the Green Party in Coggeshall ward, has left the group to sit as an Independent councillor.
Mole Valley: David Harper, who was elected for the Ashtead Independents in Ashtead Park ward, has left the group to sit as an Independent councillor. The Ashtead Independent group are currently known as the Informal Independent Group.
West Suffolk: Elaine McManus, who was elected for the Conservatives in Haverhill North ward, has left the party to sit as a non-grouped Independent councillor.
Wyre: It is noted that the two sitting Independent councillors have formed the Wyre Residents’ Group. They are Rachel George (Pharos ward) and David Gerrard (Rossall ward).
Birmingham: Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath East ward, after the death of Labour councillor and former Lord Mayor Mohammed Azim. Term ends 2026.
Blackpool: Greenlands ward, after the death of Conservative councillor John Wing. Term ends 2023.
Eastbourne: St Anthony’s ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Helen Burton. Term ends 2023.
Epping Forest: Waltham Abbey South West ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Dave Plummer. Term ends 2023.
Lancaster: Westgate ward, after the death of Independent group councillor Merv Evans. Term ends 2023.
