Other updates

  • Bristol: The council will hold a referendum in May 2022 on whether to retain the directly-elected Mayor system. Bristol voted in favour of a directly elected Mayor in a 2012 referendum ordered by the Coalition Government; the law allows a new referendum to be held after a decade.
  • Moray: When the council ended up tied on the Conservatives’ motion to take control of the council from the Scottish National Party, the party leaders decided to resolve the tie by cutting a deck of cards. The Scottish National Party drew the higher card (the jack of spades) and have accordingly retained control.
  • Stratford-on-Avon: At separate meetings on Monday, both Warwick district council and Stratford-on-Avon district council voted to merge with each other. They have jointly applied to the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to bring about the merger.
