The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Bolton: The byelection in Bromley Cross ward held on 28 October was won by Amy Cowen. Conservative hold.
  • Carlisle: The byelection in Currock and Upperby ward held on 28 October was won by Chris Wills. Labour gain from the UK Independence Party (who did not defend their seat).
  • Luton: The byelection in South ward held on 28 October was won by Fatima Begum. Labour hold.
  • South Kesteven: The byelection in Grantham Arnoldfield ward held on 28 October was won by Kaffy Rice-Oxley. Conservative hold.
  • South Kesteven: The byelection in Stamford All Saints ward held on 28 October was won by Richard Cleaver. Independent gain from Conservative.
  • South Staffordshire: The byelection in Kinver ward held on 28 October was won by Geoff Sisley. Conservative hold.
  • South Staffordshire: The byelection in Wombourne South East ward held on 28 October was won by Mark Evans. Conservative hold.
  • Wrexham: The byelection in Gresford East and West ward held on 28 October was won by Jeremy Kent. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • East Lothian: Preston, Seton and Gosford ward, after the death of Labour councillor and council leader Willie Innes. Term ends May next year.
  • Highland: Caol and Mallaig ward, after the impending resignation of Independent councillor Ben Thompson. As his term is due to end in May next year, no byelection will be held.
  • Newport: Victoria division, after the resignation of Labour councillor Abdul-Majid Rahman. Term ends May next year.
  • North Norfolk: Stalham ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Marion Millership. Term ends 2023.
  • Welwyn Hatfield: Welwyn East ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Steven Markiewicz. Term ends May next year.
  • West Lindsey: Nettleham ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Giles McNeill, who was elected for the Conservatives, following a criminal conviction. Term ends 2023.

  • Adur: The byelection due in Hillside ward will be held on 2 December.
  • Breckland: The byelection due in Hermitage ward will be held on 2 December.
  • Lancaster: The byelection due in Bare ward will be held on 2 December.
  • Lancaster: The byelection due in Upper Lune Valley ward will be held on 2 December.
  • Newport: The byelection due in Victoria division will be held on 2 December.
  • North Norfolk: The byelection due in Stalham ward will be held on 2 December.
  • Warwick: The byelection due in Whitnash ward will be held on 2 December.
  • Worthing: The byelection due in Marine ward will be held on 2 December.
  • Wyre Forest: The byelection due in Franche and Habberley North ward will be held on Tuesday 30 November.

Other updates

  • Slough: The Secretary of State for Levelling Up is proposing to intervene in the council by appointing commissioners to ensure it complies with its best value duty. This move follows a review after the council issued a section 114 notice preventing unneeded spending.
