Result
- West Lothian: The byelection in East Livingston and East Calder ward held on 5 August was won by Thomas Ullathorne. Scottish National Party gain from Labour.
Change of allegiance
- North Northamptonshire: Martin Griffiths, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Irchester ward, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- Carlisle: Currock and Upperby ward, after the death of UK Independence Party councillor John Denholm. Term ends 2022.
- Denbighshire: Llandrillo division, after the resignation of Plaid Cymru councillor Mabon ap Gwynfor, now Member of the Senedd for Dwyfor Meirionnydd. Term ends 2022.
- East Devon: Exe Valley ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Fabian King. Term ends 2023.
- East Hampshire: Horndean Downs ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Tony Denton. Term ends 2023.
- Epsom and Ewell: Cuddington ward, after the death of Residents’ Association of Cuddington councillor and former Mayor Robert Foote, who was killed while volunteering as a marshal at Brands Hatch. Term ends 2023.
- Harrow: Pinner South ward, after the death of Conservative councillor and former Leader of the Council Chris Mote. Term ends 2022.
- Corporation of London: Aldersgate ward, after the resignation of Common Councilman Joyce Nash due to ill health (she has since died). Term ends 2022; under an Act of Common Council no byelection may be held.
- Corporation of London: Aldgate ward, after the resignation of Common Councilman Sylvia Moys. Term ends 2022; under an Act of Common Council no byelection may be held.
- Corporation of London: Cordwainer ward, after the death of Alderman Sir Roger Gifford. Under an Act of Common Council the election has been postponed until the 2022 Ward List comes into effect.
- Sheffield: Firth Park ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alan Law due to ill health. Term ends 2024.
- South Lakeland: Kendal North ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Jon Owen. Term ends 2022.
- Wigan: Leigh West ward, after the death of Labour councillor and former council leader Peter Smith (Lord Smith of Leigh). Term ends 2022.

- Ealing: The byelection due in Hobbayne ward will be held on 16 September.
- Falkirk: The byelection due in Falkirk South ward will be held on 14 October.
- Malvern Hills: The byelection due in Tenbury ward will be held on 16 September.
- Newcastle upon Tyne: The byelection due in Castle ward will be held on 9 September.
- Sheffield: The byelection due in Firth Park ward will be held on 16 September.
- South Derbyshire: The byelection due in Seales ward will be held on 9 September.
- South Tyneside: The byelection due in Cleadon and East Boldon ward will be held on 9 September.

- Caerphilly: David Poole, who was elected for the Labour Party in Pengam division, has been suspended from the council until 28 November 2021 by the Adjudication Panel for Wales.
