South Tyneside Independents Group 4, Independent Labour 1. The southern banks of the River Tyne, including the towns of South Shields and Jarrow (still famous for the hunger march of the 1930s).

The Conservatives regained Cleadon and East Boldon at a byelection on 9 September. Angela Hamilton (Beacon and Bents) moved from Labour to Independent Labour in September 2021. Labour gained Fellgate and Hedworth from an Independent at a byelection on 29 July.
