Results
- Caerphilly: The byelection in Hengoed ward held on 6 August was won by Anthony Cook. Plaid Cymru hold.
- King’s Lynn and West Norfolk: The byelection in Heacham ward held on 6 August was won by Paul Powers. Reform UK gain from Conservative.
- King’s Lynn and West Norfolk: The byelection in Snettisham ward held on 6 August was won by Ben Griffin. Reform UK gain from Conservative.
- Reigate and Banstead: The byelection in Hooley, Merstham and Netherne ward held on 6 August was won by Nick Abear. Green Party gain from Conservative.
- South Tyneside: The byelection in Harton ward held on 6 August was won by Katie Groom. Reform UK hold.
Defections
- Birmingham: Siobhan Harper-Nunes, who was elected for the Green Party in Ladywood ward, has been suspended from the group.
- Fife: James Leslie, who was elected for the Conservatives in Kirkcaldy North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Hillingdon: Matthew Elder, who was elected for Reform UK in Heathrow Villages ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Wakefield: Rhys Carr, who was elected for Reform UK in Ackworth, North Elmsall and Upton ward but left the party in June, has now joined the Social Democratic Party.
New vacancies
- Brighton and Hove: Queen’s Park ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Milla Gauge. Term ends 2027.
- Charnwood: Wreake Valley ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Laurie Needham. Term ends 2027.
- Manchester: Burnage ward, after the disqualification of Labour councillor Bev Craig on election as Mayor of Greater Manchester. Term ends 2028.
- Newcastle-under-Lyme: Town ward, after the resignation of Reform UK councillor Christine Duffy. Term ends 2030.
- North East Derbyshire: Eckington South and Renishaw ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Stuart Fawcett. Term ends 2027.
- Sheffield: Walkley ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Andy Davies. Term ends 2030.
Dates for byelections
- Highland: The byelection due in Wick and East Caithness ward will be held on 1 October.
- Manchester: The byelection due in Burnage ward will be held on 10 September.
- Milton Keynes: The byelection due in New Bradwell ward will be held on 24 September.
- North East Derbyshire: The byelection due in Eckington South and Renishaw ward will be held on 10 September.
- West Suffolk: The byelection due in Haverhill West ward will be held on 10 September.
Other updates
- Oldham The council remains without an administration three months after the election, despite multiple attempts. The Monitoring Officer has now issued the council a notice under Section 5 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, as it is breaking the law. This notice summons an extraordinary meeting on 20 August at which a further attempt to elect a Leader will be made.
