Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Cambridge: King’s Hedges ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Kevin Price. No byelection will be held as his term was to have ended next May.
  • Exeter: Mincinglake and Whipton ward, after the death of Labour councillor Judy Pattison. Term ends 2022.
  • Renfrewshire: Paisley South East ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Paul Mack. Term ends 2022.
  • St Helens: Earlestown ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Pam Howard who was elected for the Labour Party. Term ends 2023.
  • Sandwell: Rowley ward, after the death of Labour councillor Chris Tranter. Term ends 2022.
  • Tendring: West Clacton and Jaywick Sands ward, after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Nicola Overton. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. The Cabinet Office has confirmed that local elections teams should not plan on this date being brought forward. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
  • Argyll and Bute: The byelection due in Helensburgh and Lomond South ward will be held on 18 March 2021.
  • West Lothian: The byelection due in Livingston South ward will be held on 11 March 2021.
