The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Birmingham: Quinton ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor and former council leader John Clancy. Term ends 2022.
  • Hartlepool: Seaton ward, after the resignation of Putting Seaton First councillor James Black who has taken a politically restricted post. No byelection will be held as his term was extended to May next year.
  • Maldon: Heybridge East ward, after the resignation of veteran Conservative councillor Bryan Harker. Term ends 2023.
  • Redbridge: Seven Kings ward, after the death of Labour councillor Stuart Bellwood. Term ends 2022.
  • Redcar and Cleveland: Guisborough ward, after the death of Conservative councillor and former Mayor Dennis Teasdale. Term ends 2023.
  • Wakefield: Airedale and Ferry Fryston ward, after the disqualification of Independent councillor Alex Kear. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
