The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Result

Defections

  • Amber Valley: Amanda Paget, who was elected for the Green Party in Smalley, Shipley and Horsley Woodhouse ward but joined the Conservatives in March 2024, has now joined Reform UK.
  • Blackpool: Gerard Walsh, who was elected for the Conservatives in Squire’s Gate ward, has joined Reform UK.
  • Carmarthenshire: Dot Jones, who was elected for the Labour Party in Llanon ward, has left the party to sit as an unaffiliated Independent councillor.
  • Crawley: Caraig Burke, who was elected for the Conservatives in Pound Hill South and Worth ward, has joined Reform UK.
  • Durham: Dawn Saunders, who was elected for Reform UK in Peterlee division but left the party group earlier this month, has now returned.
  • East Devon: Daniel Wilson, who was elected for the Labour Party in Exmouth Halsdon ward but left it in April 2024 and was in the Independent Group, has now joined the Green Party and the Democratic Alliance Group.
  • Gedling: David Ellis, who was elected for the Labour Party in Ernehale ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Hartlepool: Aaron Roy, who was elected for the Labour Party in Hart ward but joined Reform UK in March, has now been expelled from Reform UK over comments about the Union Flag.
  • High Peak: Madeline Hall, who was elected for the Labour Party in Corbar ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Malvern Hills: There has been a reorganisation of the council’s Independent groups. Three Independent councillors have left the Democratic Independent group to form a Green and Independent Alliance group with the Green Party: they are Kathy Wells and Tom Wells (both Powick and the Hanleys ward) together with Kwai Hung Chan (Link ward). Meanwhile Beverley Nielsen (Great Malvern ward), who had joined the Labour Party in August 2024, has now left it but remains an Independent councillor in the Democratic Independent group.
  • Oxfordshire: Ben Higgins, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Watlington and Rotherfield division, has been suspended from the party and is sitting as a non-grouped councillor.
  • Redditch: Matthew Dormer, who was elected for the Conservatives in Webheath and Callow Hill ward but left the party group in March, has now returned.
  • Sheffield: Gareth Slater, who was elected for the Labour Party in Southey ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • South Oxfordshire: Ben Higgins, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Watlington ward, has been suspended from the party and is sitting as a non-grouped councillor.

New vacancies

  • East Devon: Exmouth Brixington ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Cherry Nicholas. Term ends 2027.
  • Hertsmere: Bushey Park ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Shailain Shah. Term ends 2027.
  • Merton: Longthornton ward, after the death of Labour councillor and former Mayor Marsie Skeete. As her term would have ended on 10 May, no byelection follows.
  • Pembrokeshire: Pembroke Dock Market ward, after the death of veteran Independent Group councillor Brian Hall. Term ends 2027.
  • South Staffordshire: Himley and Swindon ward, after the death of Conservative councillor and former council leader Roger Lees. Term ends 2027.
