Results
- Newcastle upon Tyne: The byelection in Castle ward held on 9 September was won by Thom Campion. Liberal Democrat hold.
- North East Derbyshire: The byelection in Barlow and Holmesfield ward held on 9 September was won by Bentley Strafford-Stephenson. Conservative hold.
- North East Derbyshire: The byelection in Killamarsh East ward held on 9 September was won by Tony Lacey. Labour gain from Conservative.
- North Tyneside: The byelection in Camperdown ward held on 9 September was won by Tracy Hallway. Labour hold.
- South Derbyshire: The byelection in Seales ward held on 9 September was won by Amy Wheelton. She wins as an Independent a seat she was previously elected to as a Conservative.
- South Tyneside: The byelection in Cleadon and East Boldon ward held on 9 September was won by Stan Wildhirt. Conservatives regain a seat after the outgoing councillor was expelled from the group.
Changes of allegiance
- Kingston-upon-Thames: John Tolley, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Grove ward, has left the party.
- South Tyneside: Angela Hamilton, who was elected for the Labour Party in Beacon and Bents ward, has left the party group to sit as an Independent Labour councillor.

- Adur: Hillside ward, after the death of Conservative councillor David Simmons. Term ends 2022.
- Birmingham: Yardley East ward, after the death of veteran Liberal Democrat councillor Neil Eustace. Term ends 2022.
- Liverpool: Clubmoor ward, after the death of Labour councillor Tim Jeeves. Term ends 2024.
- Rutland: Oakham North West ward, after the resignation of non-aligned Independent councillor Adam Lowe. Term ends 2023.
- Surrey Heath: Frimley Green ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Ben Leach. Term ends 2023.

- Luton: The byelection due in South ward will be held on 28 October.
- Surrey Heath: The byelection due in Frimley Green ward will be held on 14 October.
