The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Change of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Aberdeenshire: Ellon and District ward, after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Richard Thomson, now Member of Parliament for Gordon. Term ends 2022.
  • Cheshire West and Chester: Neston ward, after the death of Labour councillor Andy Williams. Term ends 2023.
  • Gloucester: Quedgeley Fieldcourt ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Lee Hawthorne who was elected for the Conservatives but left the party last July. As his term was extended to May 2021, no byelection will be held.
  • Greenwich: Kidbrooke with Hornfair ward, after the death of Labour councillor Christine Grice (who was elected deputy leader as an honorary title shortly before her death). Term ends 2022.
  • Mid Devon: Westexe ward, after the death of Independent councillor Gerald Luxton. Term ends 2023.
  • Pendle: Barrowford ward, after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Christian Wakeford who did not attend any meetings for six months (he is now Member of Parliament for Bury South). Term ends 2022.
  • Peterborough: Fletton and Woodston ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Louise Coles. Term ends 2023.
  • Uttlesford: Newport ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Anthony Gerard who was elected as a Residents for Uttlesford candidate. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections.
  • The Minister for Housing and Local Government in the Welsh Government has made regulations which postpone all byelections to a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
