Changes of allegiance

  • West Oxfordshire: Jake Acock, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Ascott and Shipton ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
  • Wirral: Steve Hayes, who was elected for the Green Party in Birkenhead and Tranmere ward, has left the council group and is sitting as an Independent councillor.

New vacancies

  • East Sussex: Seaford North division, after the resignation of Conservative county councillor Phil Boorman. His term would have ended in May so no byelection will be held.

  • Pendle: Horsfield ward, after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Steve Petty who did not attend any meetings in six months. No byelection will be held as his term was extended to next May.

Dates for byelections

  • In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
