The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Cannock Chase: Hawks Green ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Dan Snape. His term was extended to 2021 so no byelection will be held.
  • Elmbridge: Cobham and Downside ward, after the disqualification of Brexit Party councillor Mike Bennison, who was elected for the Conservatives but has not attended any meetings in six months. His term was extended to next year so there will not be a byelection.
  • Hartlepool: Hart ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Ann Johnson. Her term would have ended in May next year so she will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • South Kesteven: Glen ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chris Benn due to ill health. Term ends 2023.
  • Warwickshire: Bedworth Central division, after the death of the Labour group leader, Richard Chattaway. His term would have ended in May 2021 so no byelection may be held.
  • West Suffolk: Moreton Hall ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Frank Warby following claims about Facebook posts; he was elected as an Independent candidate. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.

Other updates

  • Spelthorne: An extraordinary council meeting has been summoned for Thursday 25 June, to debate a motion to remove Ian Harvey from the council leadership (following his defection away from the Conservative Party) and elect new Conservative group leader John Boughtflower to lead the council.
