The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • City of London: Peter Estlin was re-elected unopposed as Alderman for Coleman Street ward on 18 December.
  • City of London: Alison Gowman was re-elected unopposed as Alderman for Dowgate ward on 18 December.
  • City of London: Vincent Keaveny was re-elected unopposed as Alderman for Farringdon Within ward on 18 December.
  • Staffordshire: The byelection in Watling South division held on 12 December was won by Richard Ford. Conservative hold. The votes were not counted until Tuesday 17 December.
  • Tamworth: The byelection in Mercian ward held on 12 December was won by Steven Pritchard. Conservative hold. The votes were not counted until Tuesday 17 December.

New vacancies

  • Highland: Eilean a’ Cheò ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Professor Ronald MacDonald. Term ends 2022.
  • Newcastle upon Tyne: Blakelaw ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Nora Casey, who has taken up a new job away from the area. Her term would have ended in May so she will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Newcastle upon Tyne: Lemington ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Kim McGuinness, now Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria. As her term would have ended in May, there will be no byelection.
  • Suffolk: Newmarket and Red Lodge division, after the resignation of Conservative county councillor Robin Millar, now Member of Parliament for Aberconwy. Term ends 2021.
  • Thanet: Cliffsend and Pegswell ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Stevens. Term ends 2023.
  • West Suffolk: Newmarket North ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Robin Millar, now Member of Parliament for Aberconwy. Term ends 2023.

  • Suffolk: The byelection due in Newmarket and Red Lodge division will be held on 30 January 2020.
  • West Suffolk: The byelection due in Newmarket North ward will be held on 30 January 2020.
