The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Changes of allegiance

  • None this week.

New vacancies

  • Arun: Brookfield ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Chris Blanchard-Cooper. Term ends 2023.
  • East Suffolk: Framlingham ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor William Taylor. Term ends 2023.
  • Rotherham: Anston and Woodsetts ward, after the disqualification of Labour councillor Katherine Wilson who failed to attend any meetings in six months. Her term had been extended to 2021 so no byelection will be held.
  • Rotherham: Maltby ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Richard Price. No byelection will follow as his term was due to end in 2021.
  • Rotherham: Rother Vale ward, after the disqualification of Labour councillor Leon Allcock who failed to attend any meetings in six months. His term was extended to 2021 so no byelection will be held.
  • South Derbyshire: Hilton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor and deputy leader of the council Andy Billings. Term ends 2023.
  • Stoke-on-Trent: Moorcroft ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor and former council leader Mohammed Pervez. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
  • Aberdeenshire: The byelection due in Ellon and District ward will be held on 1 October.
  • Edinburgh: The byelection due in Craigentinny/Duddingston ward will be held on 12 November.

Other updates

  • Guildford: The Liberal Democrats and Residents 4 Guildford and Villages have come to a new agreement on the council administration. The current leader, a Liberal Democrat, will give way to an R4GV councillor in October, and the executive will consist of four members of each group.
