Results
- Hackney: The byelection in Cazenove ward held on 18 January was won by Ian Sharer, who had represented the area from 1994 to 2018 as Labour, Hackney New Labour and then Liberal Democrat. Since the 2022 election he has joined the Conservative Party. Conservative gain from Labour.
- Richmond-upon-Thames: The byelection in Hampton North ward held on 18 January was won by Carey Bishop. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
- Richmond-upon-Thames: The byelection in Teddington ward held on 18 January was won by Richard Baker, who previously represented the ward in 2018-22. Liberal Democrat hold.
- Sheffield: The byelection in Stannington ward held on 18 January was won by Will Sapwell. Liberal Democrat hold.
- Wandsworth: The byelection in Tooting Broadway ward held on 18 January was won by Sean Lawless. Labour hold.
- Warwick: The byelection in Warwick All Saints and Woodloes ward held on 18 January was won by Claire Wightman. Labour hold.
Change of allegiance
- Kirklees: Ammar Anwar, who was elected for the Labour Party in Dewsbury West ward, has left the party over its stance on the Middle East crisis, and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- Angus: Arbroath West, Letham and Friockheim ward, after the impending resignation of Independent councillor David Fairweather on 9 February. Term ends 2027.
- Carmarthenshire: Elli ward, after the resignation of Independent unaffiliated councillor John Jenkins. Term ends 2027.
- Horsham: Southwater North ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Mike Wood. Term ends 2027.
- North Tyneside: Valley ward, after the death of Labour councillor Carole Burdis. Her term was to have ended in May so no byelection follows.
- Orkney: Stromness and South Isles ward, after the impending resignation of the council leader James Stockan, an Independent councillor, who is to retire on 5 February. Term ends 2027.
- Teignbridge: Ashburton and Buckfastleigh ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Huw Cox. Term ends 2027.
- Waverley: Witley and Milford ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Andrew Law. Term ends 2027.
Dates for byelections
- East Riding of Yorkshire: The byelection due in Minster and Woodmansey ward will be held on 29 February.
- East Riding of Yorkshire: The byelection due in Tranby ward will be held on 29 February.
- Glasgow: The byelection due in Hillhead ward will be held on 7 March.
- Corporation of London: An election of Alderman for Candlewick ward will be held on 31 January. There is only one candidate.
- Corporation of London: An election of Alderman for Cheap ward will be held on 31 January. There is only one candidate.
Other updates
- Hastings: The former Labour cabinet, who had left the party en masse to form the Hastings Independents, resigned at the council meeting this week. A new administration has been formed with the Green Party leading and also including members of the Hastings Independent group.
