Liverpool: The group of Labour councillors who opposed the budget have now left the party and established the Liverpool Community Independents group. Five have joined from Labour: Alan Gibbons (Warbreck ward), who was separately expelled from the Labour Party this week, together with Joanne Calvert and Rona Heron (both representing Old Swan ward), Alison Clarke (Knotty Ash ward), and Alfie Hincks (Everton ward). The group has also recruited three ex-Labour councillors who left at the end of last year: Sam Gorst (Cressington ward), Sarah Morton (Clubmoor ward), and Anna Rothery (Princes Park ward). This leaves George Knibb (Norris Green ward) outside the group. It is also noted that Alan Tormey, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Childwall ward, has joined the Liberal Party.
Middlesbrough: Lee Garvey, who was elected as a Middlesbrough Independent Group councillor for Berwick Hills and Pallister ward but announced in March that he had joined the Labour Party, has been rejected for membership and remains an Independent councillor.
Selby: John Cattanach, who was elected for the Conservatives in Cawood with Wistow ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Sunderland: The election in Copt Hill ward has been postponed after the death of Reg Coulson, who had been nominated as a UK Independence Party candidate.
Waltham Forest: Anna Mbachu, who has been nominated as a Labour candidate in Grove Green ward, has been expelled from the party. She remains on the ballot paper under her previous allegiance but if re-elected will serve as an Independent councillor.
